Leslie McAdam provided a stunning package from the cover to the story, everything was efficient, straight to the guts and right in the feels.
Jessica’s history tore me apart. Reading about how was her life broke my heart. Life isn’t sunshine and rainbows for sure but I wasn’t expecting this for this character. Just gripping. Her inner battles to fight her addictions were so hard and at times felt like I was really experiencing it, maybe it was on my heart but it was really troubling. The constant fight and her past literally put her in her shell, and this independant and so strong lady needed to shine.
Here comes Mikey, and it was love to me at first sight. Behind the good looks and self confidence hides a tortured soul, finding release in adrenaline. (Hot vet at day and parkour guy at night, is he real?)
I would definitely say he had everything I loved in a book boyfriend, straightforward, charming, well damn sexy but real. He didn’t pretend and living in the moment. A kindred spirit with such a beautiful soul. Behind the good and charming looks, I’d love to unravel this character, to see deeper, through his flaws.
The expression “Sparks will fly” suit perfectly to Mikey and Jessica, from the first encounter. Only Leslie McAdam could write scenes like this. (this moment will remain indelibly imprinted in my memory, well a certain part of Mikey)
This book was inspirational on so many levels, with the perfect blend of humor and emotion. Two tortured souls, so different but so well matched. I loved watching Jessica bloom. And I would definitely tackle hug Mikey.
The Ground Beneath Our Feet got it all, witty banter, humor, hot intercourse, and an incredible chemistry. I felt like flying and at the same time grounded. Mikey and Jessica’s story was reliable, describing addictions with a disconcerting reality. No beating around the bush, never judging, just raw and scorching.
How the author can write at the same time something so deep and lighthearted? I’m still amazed. Just read the book and let yourself go. Take the leap!
Jessica stole my heart! Her strength and determination to conquer a behavior pattern that’s been her safety net for years are truly inspirational. Accepting Mikey’s help is a huge step for her. Guys like Mikey don’t look twice at girls like Jessica. But that’s where she’s wrong. Mikey can barely keep his hands off of his beautiful new roommate. On the outside, it may appear he has his life together; he oozes confidence, compassion and sex appeal. But on the inside, there is a darkness that haunts him. Which is why agreeing to help her get her body in shape can lead to nothing more. He may damn well die from “Jessica exposure” in the process, though. She’s everything he never knew he needed; delightfully shy and curious, witty, so much fun. And those luscious curves! I love that Jessica is as much of a life saver for Mikey as he is for her. At the heart of this beautiful story, Ms. McAdam brings to light our tendency to love, accept, and forgive others far easier than we love, accept, and forgive ourselves. Striving for balance, loving yourself and all of your imperfections will open up a new world.
Leslie McAdam is a spectacularly talented writer. The characters she creates, the stories they tell, the way they hand us their hearts... always resonate with me in some way. Each story in the Giving You...series teaches me something new about myself. The best part? Her stories touch my soul with healing hands. They have become my therapy when I need an infusion of self-confidence and a lesson in “stop being ridiculous and mean to yourself”. The Ground Beneath Our Feet will stay with me for a very long time.
For Jessica and Mikey, this question becomes paramount to their blossoming relationship. Jessica, a beautiful, full figured attorney, finds herself on a revelatory journey toward self acceptance with Mikey by her side, a veterinarian built like a mountain with the past nipping at his own heels. This is not the story of a woman losing weight for a man, far from it. With the help of her friends, her family, her therapist, and her boyfriend- Jessica slowly learns she has to love herself before she can love someone else. While the constant refrain of “I can’t I can’t I can’t I can’t” is running through her head she continually proves to herself that she can. I loved Jessica’s spirit and strength. And while helping Jessica gain confidence, Mikey makes a few discoveries of his own about making each breath count.
