This thirty day reading plan is scripturally based and scripturally sound as the author uses the verses in the context within which they were written in the Bible and where they are used in each of the thirty day challenge. I never saw one text taken out of context. This book gives the reader an easy to follow reading schedule that has real application for the believer and will strengthen their relationship with Christ and help them to grow closer to Christ which is what I personally need too. Dr. Williams gives us a great way to document and journal our progression toward Christ and “will serve as your discipleship journal” (p. 50).
Day Eight of this “Thirty Days” plan to grow closer to Christ might be one of the most important as the author focuses on being committed to living a holy life (p. 51, 52) which is further explained in 1st Peter 1:13-25 where we are challenged to seriously commit to be holy because God is holy.
One of the greatest ways to grow closer to Christ is “to communicate your testimony with someone” (p. 144) which is what the 27th day is all about. It is hard to witness to people but when we use our personal testimony, it is hard for others to argue about that because they see a changed life that cannot be argued against and personal experience is one of the most powerful ways to witness to others.
This book will strengthen your faith, deepen your relationship with God, and make you grow closer to Christ by the discipline of a thirty day journey in the Word and a personal faith journey that challenges the believer in Christ. It makes you accountable for each day and takes you into scriptures that have practical application with the lesson of each day. Even the conclusion doesn’t let you off the hook; it challenges you (and me) to continue the process of growing in the knowledge of the Word by taking “Old Testament and New Testament courses so that you become more familiar with the books of the Bible and what they contain [and to] take a Bible doctrines or systematic theology course so that you can learn what the Bible teaches about certain subjects, such as God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the church” (p. 161). I would therefore, highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord with the desired outcome of growing closer to Christ and is anything more important than that?
