Product Description
Increase yield and grow bigger and healthier plants
The industry standard for trellising greenhouse tomatoes as well as cucumbers and other high yield vining crops. Maximize your greenhouse growing space easily by growing vertically and have larger harvests in a smaller space. A perfect solution to urban, rental, and small space gardening needs, Roller Hooks allow plants to take up less square footage while producing larger yields that can be easily reached. Roller hooks transform even the smallest of growing spaces into vertical gardens that are easy to maintain without bending, lifting, or kneeling. Roller Hooks allow plants to lean outwards without risk of falling over and make harvesting and pruning easier and safer.
Designed to support plants and prevent collapse from vertical growing
Roller Hooks are the preferred method of support for expert growers and are an especially efficient use of space. Overhead hooks trellis hooks are ideal for high tunnel tomato production but can be put to use indoors or out to create vertical gardens in any setting with sufficient support. Each tomato plant is given one string running from floor to ceiling on which to climb that is attached to the overhead roller hook. It is important to have a strong support system, such as the hoops or rafters in a greenhouse, or an A-frame structure. Roller hooks allow plants to be leaned outwards for disease maintenance, pruning, and harvesting with minimal disruption to the plant.
Easy to use
As the plants grow, clip and wrap the vine around the string little bit at a time. This can be hard if the string is too taut, but if done well wrapping the vine can very evenly distribute the weight of the plant and mimics the natural upward growth pattern of vining plants. Alternatively, vines can be tied or clipped to the string, allowing the plant to grow straight up following the path of the string. Many growers purchase tomato clips, which are specifically designed for this method of trellising and are easy to open and close around branches without causing damage. Clips should be attached directly to the vine below a major branch to support the increasing weight as the plant grows.
Can be used for multiple crops in multiple applications
Roller Hooks can be used in traditional greenhouses, hoop houses, or along fences, under arbors, or on patios so long as a secure overhead attachment point is available. Roller Hooks can be used in urban gardens to maximize rooftop, balcony, and small allotment gardens to dramatically increase harvest yields in a limited space setting.
Roller Hooks can be used with a wide variety of vining crops in small areas for maximum output. Plants that grow exceptionally well with Roller Hooks include: cucumbers, tomatoes, melons, peas, and pepper plants. Any plant that can be trained to grow vertically can be supported with overhead Roller Hooks.

Basically, all you need to do is put a vertical support on each end of your row of plants (these can support more than tomatoes, they can support anything that needs support), then run a wire between those two supports. I recommend a strong, stiff wire, or it will sag.
One minor complaint is that they did not come assembled. I had to put the rollers on each wire hook, and it is not immediately obvious how they go together, but I figured it out soon after. One tip: There is a little hook that is part of the wheel. You want it on the lower side of the wire that sits just above the roller. That way, the hook catches on the wire and acts as a stop. Otherwise, the roller can spin freely and it is of little use then. You just squeeze the two sides together to move the wire up a bit and then you can pull out the string you need.

Growing that many tomato plants in such a small space, would be nearly impossible without a roller hook system. I see no reason these shouldn't last 5 years, which makes the yearly cost very low. The only thing I don't like about these, is the white color. In a greenhouse environment, no one cares about the color. but in residential areas like mine, it may be an issue. Chances are, I'll have these roller hooks hanging well above the 6' privacy fences between all the yards in the neighborhood. Someone seeing 40 bright white spools with bright white strings hanging off of them, might consider them an eyesore, and gripe to the HOA. For this reason, I wish these were available in a green spool color, with a dark colored twine... something with less visibility. In the mean time, I'll try painting the spools, and add about 20' of camo twine to each spool... it should reduce the eyesore factor by quite a bit.
