I would never miss a Roy Rogers movie. Every Saturday I took my dime, a nickel for popcorn, and went to the local theater. There I rode the range with Roy, Gabby, Dale and, of course, the Smartest Horse in the Movies. It was a magic time for me, those two hours in the movie house watching all the action.

While I did not know it at the time (I was about 15 or so) I was not only being entertained, but getting a lesson in morality. The good guys were always honest and courteous. The bad guys were alway really bad. But in the end the Bad guys went to the jailhouse for trial and justice.

It was a surprise and a delight to me last May when I discovered that
Roy (Dusty) Rogers, Jr. had a theater in Branson, MO. Also that he had written a book about growing up with Roy and Dale.

His book, Growing up with Roy and Dale, was written in the first person. He was totally honest about himself and his family. He also showed Roy and Dale as loving parents who were not afraid to discipline them when necessary. He and his best friend, and adopted brother, had many adventures.

Of course, I had to go to Branson, MO to see the show. It was great! Roy and his High Riders sang all the songs Dale and Roy sang. It brought back many memories of the Saturdays in the movies, Roy's personal appearance at Forbes Field (Pittsburgh, PA), and at the fair gounds and his many rodeo appearances.

Roy, Jr. and the High Riders put on a great show. In between songs and comedy skits Dusty talked about growing up, he told us some interesting stories of things that happened during that time.

If you liked Roy and Dale you will Love Roy (Dusty), Jr.

Excellent book written by Dusty Rogers, the son of Roy Rogers. His birth mom died a few days after he was born; so Dale Evans actually raised him. He gives a lot of insight to his parents, the love they had for the Lord, and the love they had for family. I highly recommend this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to know what it was really like to grow up in the home of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. I purchased the book because I was interested in what their son had to say about his early family life. Dale and Roy were true to their reputation as Christian parents and they practiced what they preached. Roy, Jr. (or Dusty as he was called) included the happy times, sad times, and the ups and downs of being the son of Roy Rogers. He did not sugar coat anything, but told the story as it really was. The book will make you laugh and make you cry and when you have finished it you will realize that the Rogers family was just a normal American family when they were away from the limelight. If you are a fan of Roy and Dale or if you just want to read a good book that is a true story, this is the one for you.

A wonderful story that shows the difficulties encountered when being raised by a celebrity couple. This is touching in that it shows how grounded these wonderful folks were and how they raised their family with love.

I have been a Roy and Dale fan for many years. My dad loved them too, and we went to a lot of their movies. Growing Up With Roy and Dale gave me an idea of what it would have been like to be one of their kids. I always used to tell my dad that I wished Roy Rogers was my dad because he wouldn't get mad at me for doing something wrong. Well, Dusty sort of relieved me of that mistaken idea. Guess all dads are pretty much alike in wanting their kids to behave themselves. Dusty did a great job of telling the story.

Normally, it takes me at least a week, usually two, to read a 206-page book. This one took me only 2 days because it was very warmly, interestingly, and honestly written, and I just couldn't put it down. I now feel that I know not only Dusty, but also the very large family he grew up with, as well as the valuable lessons he learned along the way. Thank you, Dusty, for sharing your family with us yet again. May God continue to bless you.
