I endorse this book from 3 personal perspectives: 1) I am a senior clinician and academic physician with over 35 years of patient experience ; 2) I am a clinical researcher, and educator working in the arena of cancer survivorship; and 3) I am the Mom of an adult survivor of a childhood cancer.
The book is meaningful and entertaining...but most of all what strikes me is that the sentiments, powerful narratives, and overall perspective presented in this book are compelling and relevant to health professionals. I plan to use the text in my cancer survivorship curriculum (physicians, oncology nurses, residents, medical students, social workers )!
My husband and I continue to "Grow Up Backwards" as our child, now adult survivor, moves forward in her next chapter as a pediatric oncology nurse practitioner. I thank Kathleen Keenan and Beth Keenan Ryan for putting into words and pictures a compelling masterpiece and a meaningful medical education resource.
