Designed by the legendary Sid Sackson, Cant Stop is the ultimate press-your-luck board game. Once you've started this intense dice game, you just "can't stop." You'll go for the dice again and again only to risk losing it all on a single roll. Players try to win three of the eleven number columns as quickly as possible. During their turn, players may roll the dice as long as they wish-provided that they can place or move at least one of their runners. If, after rolling the dice, a player is unable to do so, his turn ends immediately and he loses everything that he achieved during that turn. He should have stopped in time. but he didn't. Everybody likes to try just once more. and then maybe once more. they just CAN'T STOP. CAN YOU?.

The goal is to be the first to "capture" three rows. You capture a roll by being the first person to reach the top. Once that row is captured noone can use that number, it is no longer a viable number combonation. You roll 4 dice to make 2 number combinations. So if you roll a 3, 5, 2,1 you can make 7 and 4, 8 and 3, or 5 and 6. Choose the combo and place the white place marker. Next roll should get your 3rd marker on the board (you have to put the marker on if you have the number). Then you just need to decide if you feel lucky. You can roll as many times as you like to advance those white markers, but every time you roll you MUST get at least one of the numbers marked by a white marker. If you have 6, 7, 8 marked and roll all 1s and 2s you lose your turn and any advancement for that turn!
I give this version of the game only 3 stars (for a 4 star average) because, while the cones are a really cute idea, they are slippery and are easily knocked over when stacked. Pieces are stacked often, because there is no rule saying players can't end on the same spot. The slippery problem is the worst part. When I say slippery I mean the last time we played my fingers slid off my marker 6 or 7 times before I finally tipped it over on purpose to get a better angle! It's like a nasty little parlor trick! You feel like an idiot, because you can't grab ahold of this little cone. It is funny to everyone else playing though!! And it doesn't happen every time, thankfully. But often enough to make it annoying.
Soooo. Fun game, bad design.
You can be set up, have the rules under your belt, and underway in two or three minutes, and then the game lasts between 10 and 20 minutes usually (in our two-player games). The bits are sturdy plastic in bright colors, very pleasing.
If your kids like Yahtzee (or if you do), this is a good fun cousin to add to your collection.
I agree the pieces are oddly hard to pick up but not enough to cause a serious problem.
In Can't Stop, players roll four standard dice, which they'll divide into two pairs. This entitles them to move their markers up the corresponding tracks numbered 2 through 12 (all the possible results for a pair of D6s) on a stop-signed shaped board. If you get your marker to the top first, you can claim that column, and the first player to claim three columns wins the game. But now here's the catch: on your turn you can keep re-rolling in an effort to move your markers further - but if you roll a combination of dice that doesn't let you make a pair of dice that moves upward at least one of the three markers you're using that turn, you lose everything you've gained that turn. Ah, press-your-luck at it's best!
Can't Stop has a fun and addictive quality about it, and despite the fact that you're pushing luck, it's not pure luck because there's enough decision making to make it interesting. It's also quick enough to prevent the luck from being too frustrating. It's easy to teach and learn, and has attractive components, so it all comes together in a package that makes it the kind of game that is suitable for just about everyone. As far as press-your-luck dice games go, this is a tried and true classic from a master designer, that still has the same appeal today as it did when it was first released 30 years ago, and that matches the best of the press-your-luck dice rolling fillers of the modern era. The new edition is excellent, and I love the stop sign board and the traffic cone shaped runners! Highly recommended! - EndersGame @ BGG
This is a new edition, sturdier box, fancier pieces.
The name tells it.
If you like Farkle, you will love this.
The basic idea is. Do you continue to roll for more score against worsening odds, or do you quit with a little?

It's just fun. You want to keep rolling...and sometimes it foils your efforts. Once a lot of the numbers are finished it gets harder to get the cone up the track. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Susan QuincyMA
