I didn't find that the snap came undone easily on this at all (mine is really stiff). The fact that the nozzle head can be turned into the case (instead of pointing out) would prevent it from spraying you or basically anything but the case. I've owned more than a few different pepper sprays over the years - i seem to be forever losing them, plus they tend to expire on me. I actually think this one's LESS likely to discharge on accident because the case ensures that it's stored securely.
Once you get it out of the case it would definitely be easy to accidentally discharge though. All you need to do is turn the nozzle with a thumb and press down. I consider this a good thing because it could easily be done one-handed. Other sprays I've had were not as easy to unlock (this one is downright loose compared to them and again, I consider this a good thing).
Since I take mine hiking I ended up taking it out of the case and sticking it into an old plastic pepper spray case (I think it was the "Smith and Wesson" brand but I think this spray must be standard size cause it fit). I've always hated these plastic cases because while you can discharge the pepper spray right in the case, the sprays they come with usually have a tighter/slightly more secure locking mechanism that I've always doubted I'd be able fire one-handed. THIS pepper spray works way better in the plastic case than the original spray because of the loose locking mechanism (of course I would be better off getting the hand strap but I didn't realize that at the time).
Anyways, if I was planning on keeping this in my bag or on my keys I'd definitely prefer the original zebra stripe case it came with over most other setups, because like I said, I think it's more secure due to the fact that it completely covers the nozzle. I don't think any locking mechanism is going to be secure on pepper spray if you're keeping it in your bag with the nozzle exposed (it will inevitably get dislodged and turned), but at least this one won't be spraying you in the face if it ever comes unsnapped!
Amazon gave me a refund. I purchased the black one to avoid the color issue. The first time I opened the black case the snap-on came off. Now the case does not close. I'm not going to try to get a refund or reorder the product because I'm assuming something else will be wrong with the third one.
