Just finished, Guarded Star, by Christine Ashworth. Not a book to share with my 14 year old daughter as was with the first of this series, but….LOVED IT! It caught me right from the start and never let go. This story was fun, sexy, and had a good suspenseful mystery thrown against the backdrop of the music industry. It was a satisfying read from beginning to the end. I liked the character development. I totally got Evie – youthful, talented, smart and sassy. And Jake…LOVED HIM…I want one of him for myself! All man, strong, sexy, protective, supportive, encouraging the woman to be all she could be, devoted, honest – OMG this could go on….Yummers! Felt like I could really see them in my mind’s eye. The dialogue felt real, not what we’d wish someone said. But more like a fly on the wall listening in to people’s conversations. I like the style of this writer. Already looking forward to reading Book 3 in the Star Tide Series. Hurry up and get it out here….A definite fan of Christine Ashworth stories!!!!
I also appreciated a story about the music industry that was realistic, especially the little details like when Evie would replace guitar strings. Her lyrics were actually who acted like a professional songwriter and her lyrics sounded like a real song, not just some rhymes by a writer. This is one book that could come with a soundtrack!
I really liked this story both the story line and the way it read. Ms. Ashworth has a very easy going, friendly, pleasant way with her words. The story was well written with a nice pace and no obvious errors. She took time with her character development and it paid off. Both leads were compelling and interesting. Something you would think would be an obvious thing to do but so often is not.
Evie was absolutely easy to love. No matter what happened to her she seemed to make the best of it, choosing to see the good and positive when things were darkest. Jake was bound and determined to live up to the promise he made to his dying friend and nothing more.... too bad no one told Evie the rules. The cute little Pixie had his head going round and round, in just the way a good romance story should.
A very, good book indeed.
This is a F/M Book
Jake is older than Evie, like 14 years older but as the story goes on, I tended to forget it. Maybe because of all of Evie's life expriences it was like she had what some call, an old soul.
Jake is not only older but he has a protector vibe going on with him, has four sisters that over his life he has protected. So of course its not a surprise that he became a P.I. and got hired to be Evie's bodyguard. Evie's mentor Mike, hired him prior to his death and trusted Jake to do a good job. There might have even been a bit of matchmaking on Mike's part too; there is a hint or two that it might be true. I liked both of the main characters in this story and there were several other interesting seondary people as well.
There is sexual activity as the story goes on; Evie was attracted right away and wanted to move on it. Jake felt it too but held back time and again until he finally couldn't resist any longer. Jake has been married before but it ended badly into an ugly divorce. They each seperately care for each other but are looking at their time together as only going to be for a short time; the time of her tour. That is until they both begin to think of more and that scares them both. Evie has a stalker who doesn't want her to sing or even write song anymore; someone who is really afraid and jealous of her talent and has some dark plans for her. There's a score to even in the stalker's mind. There is a twist or two towards the end, and the story ended very nicely with a HEA.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
