Like the men and women who carry our gear, Gerber is Unstoppable. Decades of innovation and dedication have put us here. Renowned as a master of knives and tools, Gerber's problem-solving, life-saving products are designed with the unique needs of specific activities in mind. Today that includes much more than a blade.
From the Manufacturer
The Geber 31-000559 Guardian Back Up Tanto is a professional fixed blade knife that takes a mighty serious cut at self defense. It features blackened and therefore non-reflective stainless steel in a 3/4 inch tang blade. Its lightweight. Its compact. Its effortless to carry, and agile to use. Importantly, the Santoprene-covered nylon handle is very much at home in the hand of those who take on life's nastier tasks. Don't overlook the patented sheath. It lets you adjust the withdraw tension to suit your individual style. Clip it to your boot or belt or your strap, and you'll never be without a reliable back-up.

With that said. It's a great knife. It comes in a package that has clearly printed Made in the USA! It's light and strong. Still the perfect shape and size for a daily carry. I wouldn't try putting the sheath in your boot. It's very hard plastic.
Time to buy the Tanto blade for a matched set.
Hopefully, I will have both for another 30 years.
I own several daggers ranging in price from $10- $50.All do the same thing! The Gerber Gardian is for someone like myself who prefers American made quality over cheaply manufactured products made overseas.
The Gaurdian has a good feel to it and is easy to use,if you know how to use it. Learn where the major arteries are and practice on drawing it quickly!Could save your life!
I think a regular fixed blade knife would be more suitable. Still usable as a defensive weapon, less likely to get cops attention, and much more utilitarian blade that you can actually use.
The blade was dull out of the package, and is a BEAR to sharpen.
Only good thing I can say about the knife is that its Made in USA and conceals easily on my belt.
