What a good story! Graham is the quintessential Highlander, stoic and taciturn, determined never to marry. It did not take long for Mercy to turn his head. Mercy is a gentle and kind soul, ready to see the best in everyone, wanting to be as kind to people as she was to animals. They were a very unlikely pair. The Duke was evil and Mercy was not certain why and Graham simply believed no Englishman was to be trusted. Janie was Mercy's maid and not really a very good one, but supremely loyal and Mercy loved her as a friend and confidant. This story proved that some Englishmen could be trusted; men took the best care possible of their children, acknowledged or not; and love blooms in the most unlikely of places. I loved reading it. I highly recommend it.
I received a free ARC of this book from Dragonblade. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.
I appreciated that the h held an awful secret that had to do with her father and she didn't withhold it from the H for long. Oh, how I dislike when the secret becomes the focus of the whole story. It made me feel more of a connection to the h when she was honest.
We have many villains, and some surprised ones too, suspense and twists. This is not a story for the faint of heart, we have a lot of violence and it does not all end with sunshine and roses. Made my heart ached for all that befall these two.
We have passionate lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 3.5 (if that) out of 5. Because I felt a connection to the H/h it was filled with passion and love and wasn't erotic.
There are so many wonderful character's I can't wait (hope) that they get their own stories. We have no cheating, romance, no cliffhanger, HEA of some sort (no spoiler's), but you will understand when you read it, and a tad of spice.
I can't improve on the blurb, just recommending this story and author. (ljb)
Lady Mercy Rowena Claxton, is beautiful, smart and has the strength of a warrior. Her Father has p!ans for her but little does he know, those plans are not hers.
This story is filled with adventure, stubborness, love and a bit of heartache. It will have you waiting at baited breath during some parts and tears the next. Wonderful read!
