Review

"A great story and so descriptive, you feel as if you are the one in danger...a thriller that leaves you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last!" ~ Paranormal Romance Guild
*
"An intelligent, fast-paced thriller. J.D.'s adopted godchild, Tommy, is autistic, and Farrelly's handling of the subject is inspired. There's also a bit of paranormal fantasy: J.D. and Libby have a mental connection that allows them to communicate telepathically. It's fun to watch how they come to terms with this ability and learn to respect each other's boundaries...(The novel) works wonderfully on all these levels. It's..entertaining and really well-written. I...wholeheartedly recommend it." ~ J. Magnus, Readers' Favorite
*
"A fast paced thriller...Simply amazing ... I enjoyed every single adrenaline-pumping page."~ F. Nassozi, Readers' Favorite
*
"A romance thriller (with) a dose of intrigue and cat-and-mouse action...Farrelly's ability to capture the nuances of autism is realistic and involving, as is her ability to realistically represent the emotions and motivations of two very different protagonists...The autism angle is the single strongest device in The Guardian's Angel...elevating the plot to a whole new level...Libby and J.D.'s romance is well-developed and builds up slowly...a satisfying adjunct to the overlaying tension in the thriller...(It) will appeal to readers of crime stories, thrillers, and romance alike." ~ D. Donovan, reviewing for Midwest Book Review

"This is simply one of the best books I've read in a long, long time...If there was a six star rating, I would gladly give it!" ~ Dianne Harman, author of the COYOTE series

I could end this review by saying this is simply one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. It has everything a reader could want: charm, engaging characters, contemporary issues, romance, suspense. I'm sure I left something out because this book has it all. One of the few books that if there was a six star rating, I would gladly give it. Thank you Ms. Farrelly, for providing a wonderful, can't put it down, read!

Well written thriller. It reminds me of Mercury Rising in some ways. The story is of an autistic child who witnesses the murder of his parents and those trying to protect him from the murderers who come back to try and cover their trail. J.D. and Libby, the two main protagonists are well developed, fleshed out in a brilliant fashion. The action was engaging and well paced, the emotions descriptive, the plot line solid and attention grabbing. While a few scenes could have been written with a bit more detail as to the how and why, overall the story was captivating and well thought out. I'd recommend it to those who like a good thriller. There are a few sex scenes, but nothing too graphic. Maybe a late teen/early adult cutoff on this one.

A surprisingly well developed short story. I normally don't care for books with a 'chase' theme, as they have a tendency to drag on, but the action was well-paced, the characters were likeable, and the plot kept me intrigued. My only dislike was the insta-love between the protagonists (Yeah, novella, I understand things need to move along quickly, but I didn't feel it). Great read, and I enjoyed the author's writing style.

In the Guardian's Angel, by Lorrie Farrelly, Libby Driscoll has managed to put her life back together after a severe trauma. During that dark time, she had crossed paths with J. D. McCammon. At the time, Libby felt a strange connection with the police officer.

As a licensed therapist in Pediatric Clinical Psychology, Libby is trained to work with troubled children. When J. D. asks her to help a child who saw his parents murdered, Libby's kind heart goes out to the five-year-old boy.

J. D. knows he can be difficult. He manages to either scare people or make them mad. But now he needs Libby's help.

Fighting his strange, compelling attraction to Libby, J. D. convinces her to provide therapy services to Tommy. With the gang of drug/art dealers suspected of killing the boy's parents also after Tommy, J. D. and Libby must work together to help Tommy as well as keep him safe.

Using a great descriptive style, Ms. Farrelly has written a wonderful story not only of danger and impending doom, but also a love story liberally sprinkled with humor.

I think the reason I gave it 3 stars was bc the storyline didn't work for me. Had the potential to be great but some things I didn't get. 1. JD and Libby being able to talk with each other without speaking? Huh? I don't get it. Not my kind of reading. 2. The whole fight scene with the bad guy Chen. What the heck was that about them using their powers to make him kill himself. I'm assuming I read that right. Sorry for spoilers but some of it was just bizarre. This could have made a good read without all that. Others obviously found it great. I didn't care for it.

I had previously only read her western series, but wow! This story kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. It was fast paced and suspenseful with a bit of paranormal thrown in. The chemistry between the characters was great, and the way Lorrie addressed autism was so touching.

This is the kind of romantic suspense I would expect from the likes of Sandra Brown. From information about autism to police work, this tightly written thriller with a touch of paranormal is spot on perfect. My first Lorrie Farrelly book, but it won't be my last. Highly recommended!

Although it isn't probable this warm and tense story grabs you right from the beginning and doesn't let you go till the end.
The focus is on something that can and does happen to our children sometimes. They may be born with a disability. But most disabilities can be overcome with love and lots of patience!
