The sex is the best I've experienced in a great while. So real and hot and yet so binding for the characters that, although very graphic, never gratuitous. I didn't want it to stop.
You will do yourself a favor to be illusioned by this story.
Life for Ambrosia Severn has been fast-tracked. The brilliant biotechnician has reached heights of acclaim at a very young age. Unfortunately, it has attracted a jealous collegue and the attention of a psychotic alien.
After a blowup with her research partner results in a forced vacation, Amy heads off to the West Coast. There she encounters a naked man, an assassination attempt and the beginning of the end… of her life. Niven, another of the alien race of Avendar, is trying to keep her alive.
What would you do if you had 400 years to live and the genetic memory of your kind? Apparently, some develop psychoses and plot to destroy the world. Others create a chokehold on the species in order to maintain “the way things are” at the expense of the reproductive health of their people.
This was a well-written and compelling read. I really hope there is a follow on to this story. Jaydon needs to get his head out of his ass and the council needs to wake up and see the genetic light.
But then, her life is about to be changed drastically and dramatically when she finds out that a dangerous and ruthless assassin is about to take her life. Can Niven, the person who has sworn to protect her keep her safe?
The reader is pulled in to witness a war between ancient powers, live a powerful conflict with the characters, and watch, with baited breath, as the tension escalates. The reader is gripped by the narrative, the elegance of the prose and the compelling characters. First the author creates a protagonist who seems to have everything anyone would dream of, and readers love the way she is, but then there is a curse. This is the kind of book you read and it haunts you after you are done. A great success.
Guardians of Illusion is a paranormal romance that follows what I presume to be the story of the Atlantians as they interact with our world from the safety of their own, but can no longer afford to cut themselves off complete from it. It is an interesting plot, particularly the compatibility of human/Avendar DNA. I should note some graphic sexual content, but overall it was really well written and the storyline kept me interested all the way to the end. I thought there were a few loose threads that weren’t tied up, particularly the one about Amy’s father, but overall it wasn’t hard to fill in the blanks myself and cheer for Amy and Niven to beat the odds.
Niven is bound by duty and honor. His mission: protect Ambrosia Severn at all costs. Standing between Amy and a violent death at the hands of an unknown assassin, he must seek out her would-be killer and fulfill his ancient oath. Chaos and uncertainty swirl as Niven finds himself tangled between the woman he is sworn to protect and the woman he has sworn to marry."
I found it odd that she didnt seem to be scared or even uncomfrtable w/ a naked man who knows things he shouldn't who has green lasers shoot out of his fingers.Took me a while to get into the book but it did eventually keep my interest. It also wrapped up in a hurry. It left several questions unanswered for me. Overall it was an okay book.
