The characters in this story are diverse. Some are obviously good through and through while others have good and bad traits and must struggle. The true villains, the demons, are obviously the bad guys. We get bits and pieces of the major characters throughout the book. As we learn more about them, we are better able to understand their motivation. I am looking forward to getting to know them even better through the rest of the series.
This was a difficult book to rate at first. I really enjoyed the story, but something felt off. When I took the time too figure out that it was the rules I didn't like, it made sense. The rules for any religion often do not make sense to us mortals, and this story was no different. Although the rules made me angry and frustrated at times, they make perfect sense in the story. Once I realized this, I was able to go with my first instinct in rating the book.
Speaking of the rules, I have a feeling we are just starting to understand them. The book covered a lot of rules, but new ones were revealed off and on throughout the book. The scenarios we are shown at the end of the book leave me wondering what else we are going to be learning.
Yes, there is a cliffhanger at the end of the book, however, the book tells a complete story. This is a good ending for a series using the same characters. A major storyline is completed and we are left knowing that 9 or 10 additional stories need to be told. We are also left wondering what the future holds for a major character. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Again, a great book, worth buying. A bargain on sale.
Thanks for the opportunity to read The Guardians Elise!
Aside from the supernatural and the hot love story, at the heart of this story is Addison. Despite growing up in a rundown trailer with a drug induces mother who has been flowing in and out like is a Seven Eleven, Addison is pretty well adjust and striving to make a better life for herself. She is trying to overcome her past and the darkness that consumes her. In the end Addison must make sacrifices and choices that will rock her world. Meeting and following Jack and Micha is one of those choices. Jack and Micha remind me of Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernatural TV Show) if they were on steroids. Total badass Guardians and very yummy.
The Guardians is fast paced read. The action begins on page one and does not let up. And it leaves you with the mother of all cliffhangers
There were a couple of epic battle scenes between demons, angels and guardians, and those were well-written and sucked me right in.
Overall, a fantastic book and a great escape into the paranormal world.
