We first meet Jack Gard and Catlyn Lyre, while they are still in High School. Catlyn is a super-genius, who has been placed in the honours class at the High School, despite her young age. Jack is the captain of the football team, an all-round nice guy and the epitome of the All American Boy. Confounding Jack's obvious desire for Catlyn are first and foremost her age and secondly the racial issue. Jack is white and Catlyn is black. Their potential love and their world falls apart when Catlyn is brutally raped by Jack's best friend, JT amd Jack provides an alibi for JT.
Fast forward twenty-five years and Jack is now the Chief of Detectives of Newburgh NY. Faced with a serial killer the City calls in the help of the FBI. Leading this team is none other that Supervisory Special Agent Catlyn Lyte. The two combine forces (in more ways than one) to hunt the serial killer but also to see if their obvious teenage love for each other can possibly be rekindled and broken trust mended.
The tension in this story is evident throughout and well done, as are the sex-scenes between Jack and Catlyn, which are suitably hot, steamy and satisfying.
This is an excellent adult read and a thriller I can totally recommend. As a first book in a trilogy, I will look forward to the next two.
Can that trust and feelings resurface as both go on the trail of a serial rapist? Well, read the book. It is entertaining, hot beneath the collar with steamy sex scenes, and constantly engaging in style.
I enjoyed this very much. Good story, good characters...perhaps a little too much sex, but overall a very enjoyable read. Will look forward to other books by this very talented author
A budding high school affair turns into terror when Catelyn was brutally raped.
Her boyfriend provided an alibi for the alleged rapist and Catelyn disappeared from her hometown.
Twenty-five years later, because of their professions, fate brings them together to hunt down a serial killer and their romance blossoms.
Cate Mc Koy is a talented writer.
The plot for the storyline was intriguing.
Perhaps a few of the erotic sex scenes could have been omitted to capture a broader reader base.
This book is clearly for adults only.
It isn’t until 25 years later that they find themselves together again, neither sure if they can put the broken pieces back together but both feeling a strong urge to. Their work together on case that opens those raw wounds and forces them into positions where they must trust each and come to terms to the past.
The plot has some shocking twists that were very well done. The power and emotion in the story was impressive and I was totally invested in both of the characters. The chemistry between the two is of the charts steamy and beautiful. There are two more parts and I look forward to seeing what is next for Jack and Catlyn.
I admit, the sex was a bit too much for me, but still, like I said, this story kept me interested. My favorite character was actually a secondary character, Mackenzie. She was also a FBI agent, but I loved how tough she was. All of the characters are nicely developed and the story is definitely interesting.
This book started off very strong. I was hooked right from the first page. The characters as high schoolers were very relatable and the situations quite relevant.
As adults they still read like young kids, in both their words and actions. But the story had plenty of tension, action and drama to keep me reading... and I read it almost in just one sitting. I very much enjoyed it.
Still a must read thriller.
Still – the twist is unbelievable, it takes a while until the reader realizes it too.
I gave it four stars for the good writing, for the twist, and for the wonderful idea.
