It is the companion of "If the Bed Falls In." You should read "Bed" before reading this book.
Who knew that when Tilda Booker went into the lab to check on the Russian, things would happen and happen fast.
This book will keep you guessing of who is on what side and is anyone safe anymore. Is the CIA the bad guys or is it just some rogue agent doing what they do best. And you will find yourself siding with the side you think is right. But are you? Read both books to find out!
This companion book enlightens us as to the reasons behind Tilda's actions and creates an intimacy between the reader and Tilda's character from "If the Bed Falls In" the first book of the thriller series "The Bedfellows".
Read 'If the Bed Falls In' first then Guerrillas by night.
Guerrillas by night, as a companion novella, uses exceprts from the books to fill in Tild'a back story.
Although the character development in 'If the Bed Falls In' is self sufficient for the stories, this extra info will satisify your 'need to know more' and possibly change your attitude toward this intriguing female and the relationship between Tilda and Joseph. This is the how and why it started and where it went before these individuals claimed their rolls in the first book of the series.
What starts out as as an easy 'do and done' effort turns ito an horrific series of events that send us into a world wind of thrills and intrigue.
"The ability to see life realistically is the first casualty of hopefulness." ( quote from this novella) describes exactly the emotional pain Tilda goes through as she's hurdled deeper into the conspiracy.
Tilda becomes lost in the plot escalation, loosing the hope of ending her suffocating charade.
It is noted in this novella that comedian George Carlin once said that the 'American Dream' is called that because you have to be asleep to believe it.
The realization that:
“They are everywhere, they know everything. They are bigger than any
government and more powerful than any army." (from novella) is Tilda's true wake up call.
The back story is one that could be frightening real. Powerful players in the world of business are teaming up with rogue agents to change the world for the better. Intelligence agencies with questionable moral compasses dictate events that seem all too real in today’s world. If you like conspiracies, psychological thrillers, and spies, then this one is for you.
I enjoyed having a look at 'behind the scenes'; from Tilda's perspective. It was nice to read the same actual scenes that are depicted in THE BED, with the same dialogue, but with Tilda's thought processes. I think she is as confused as Joseph/Tom is. She isn't quite sure if she is working for the CIA (the company?) or the Family (mob?) or MI6/SIS. Or all three?
It was hard enough to understand who Sherry was working for. But for Tilda ... well, I'm still not sure. She appears to be on the 'good guy' side.
Because this book ended at the same point in time as THE BED did.... got'a go, need to start reading Mad As Hell.
