By Flower Child Curls. Hair growth and maintenance don’t have to be complicated, so that is why one of our main objectives in this book is to simplify the natural hair maintenance process. The key is to perform a consistent hair regimen. A hair regimen contains a set of planned procedures (shampooing, conditioning, etc.) performed to the hair in a consistent manner in order to maintain moisture and promote growth. All the chapters leading up to the actual hair regimen provided by us in Chapters 9 and 10 will give you a better understanding of what your hair needs, and to understand the procedures in the hair regimen and their benefits. Chapters 1 and 2 will help you understand your hair. Chapter 3 provides tips on what ingredients to avoid in hair products. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 help you identify, treat, and prevent direct damage to the hair. Chapter 7 focuses on hair vitamins. Chapter 8 explains the different components of a typical hair regimen. Chapters 9 and 10 provide an actual hair regimen (in calendar form) for both short and long hair spanning 42 days. After the 42nd day is reached, the regimen is repeated from the beginning. This book is just informative enough for you to understand the simple steps we provide, but we will not wear you down with unnecessary information. Every chapter in this book is aimed towards increasing your hair length and health. This book is one of a kind because it combines beautiful design elements of illustrations, graphics and creative photography with helpful information and detailed procedures to growing long natural hair. So instead of bits of information here and there, you will get a simplified guide that includes all the steps to growing long, healthy hair. Our goal is to empower women of color to love and embrace our natural hair because natural hair is beautiful. This Book is best for 4A, 4B, and 4C hair. First of all let me just say that the pictures in this book are amazing. This is the first natural hair book I've found that has beautiful pictures, wonderful and funny illustrations and an actual regimen I can follow that looks like a calendar.
There is a short hair and a long hair regimen and I use the short hair one. I love how they actually tell you which days to wash, when to condition, a natural hair protein treatment to do, when to do a massage, etc. The whole book really breaks it down and goes from how to spot your damage to how to treat your damage. And right before the regimen, there is a whole chapter that breaks down the few tools you need, the natural products to use along with any formulas to mix and how to actually do every single thing on the regimen. Also all the DIY formulas in this book are so easy.
What makes the regimen great, in my opinion, is that even though every day has something to do, some of the days are made to be optional because they know that some people have a busy schedule and do not have the time to do all the things on the calendar. I myself am in Grad School so I have a tight schedule and I pretty much did 80 % of the regimen. Even so, my hair has never felt more healthy and I feel like it is finally going to grow after just following the schedule for 3 weeks.
I am finally excited about my hair because I now see that it is very easily manageable when I know what I am doing. My honest opinion is that i think this book is better for 4C/4B hair girls like me
Thank you Catherine Marion for this guide!!!!
