While some of the legally reproducable handouts in this guide were a little juvenille for my seventh grade English class, they gave me some great ideas as a "starting point" for creative classroom work and for making my own handouts. The guide was very helpful when creating classroom activities, particularly for team / cross-curricular work. The guide was a worthwhile purchse, however, for the price, I was disappointed that a copy of the book did not accompany it.

I loved the movie when I was a child in the seventies. Never forgot it. When I started teaching children during my late thirties (Spanish/English 4th graders), I thought of this story again. Bought the book, found the VHS and bought the teacher's manual. In 2000, it didn't work very well because my group of students didn't have enough English to enjoy the word play. Now that I have the book in Spanish and English and match the chapters with the movie as we read daily, it appears to be working out great.

The teacher's guide is useful at this (4th) grade level and would probably be perfect at fifth grade too. Book barely costs anything and I might just order multiple copies to make it a classroom reading project next year.

This is a very complicated book which we were required to teach this year in fifth grade in Georgia. This resource was helpful for a teacher unfamiliar with the way this author writes especially with many puns, plays on words, and other figurative language. It provides some resources for the chapters. It also provides a map which you can print for your students which they can color in as the characters progress through the Kingdoms of Dictionopolis and Digitopolis.

You might also consider reviewing the free online Cliff notes' summaries that will help you understand the author's main points and puns in each chapter!

This is a good resource filled with about four pages for each four chapter section of the book. Gives some ideas and special assignments or activities for each section to help the students learn and understand the vocabulary and get the important points in each section. We home school and have different ages - all (including myself) are enjoying the book and this teachers aid. (Seventh grade, fifth grade, and second grade.) Would recommend to anyone who wants to do more than just read a good book and give a book report.

I have taught this novel for several years. The teaching pack, although a little dated, has some great writing activities and projects. I taught this to 5th graders, however, the metaphors and symbolism were tough for some. It would probably be more appropriate for 6th grade or Middle School.
