This book is AMAZING! I stumbled across it when doing a search for "earth salutations," something that was new to me. GUIDING YOGA'S LIGHT: LESSONS FOR YOGA TEACHERS is FULL of themes! But the book is so much more than that, as author Nancy Gerstein presents each theme as an actual "lesson." So, she gives the reader information on an intention, breath awareness/warm-ups, asana practice, OFF the mat practice (love this!), and finally, "words of wisdom"--something I generally call "reflections" in my own teaching. The way Gerstein has set her book up is a PERFECT fit with my teaching style!
Gerstein's lessons are short, generally about 3 minutes (she provides times also), but each could be easily expanded, and she groups similar themes together into sections. Some of the general section categories include Salutations in Motion (in addition to the above-mentioned Earth, there's also Star and Self), Emotions, Mindfulness, Chakras, and Relaxation. Each section has at least four individual lessons, sometimes as many as eight. Under "Lessons of the Heart Center," one will find Anjali Mudra: Namaste, Seeds of Love, Expanding the Heart, and Reversing Negative Emotion. There's also a Glossary, Asana Index, and Recommended Reading List in addition to inspiring quotes throughout.
Although this book is intended for yoga teachers, I think it would be helpful to students wanting to connect meaning to their asana practice. For new teachers who like to plan their classes (as I do), I would highly recommend this as an invaluable resource.
