Series: Guild of Dragon Warriors
Author: A.K. Michaels
Designation: Book Two of Series, Can Be Read As Standalone,
My Rating: FIVE FABULOUSLY ENTERTAINING STARS*****
Hot honeyed clootie dumplings! There be dragons ahead, folks, lots and lots of sexy dragons! I'm totally smitten with A.K. Michaels Guild of Dragon Warriors! Michaels has delivered the goods yet again with Terigan's Trials, the second riveting release in this remarkable saga. The Guild of Dragon Warriors Series features a courageous, selfless group of dragon warriors dedicated to the protection of the world's innocent, persecuted and downtrodden, but interestingly also includes an underlying interconnected storyline which relates back to the premise for Michael's previous series, The Black Rose Chronicles, and additionally includes recurring appearances of many of its characters as well. I would like to preface this review by saying, this book could probably be read as a standalone since the author does include quite a bit of the backstory from the Black Rose Chronicles; however, to increase your understanding and enrich your reading experience, I would still highly recommend reading at least the first book of the series, Jaxon's Sanctuary. Each story in this series is centered primarily around a particular warrior finding his destiny, and in this particular reference means discovering not only his destiny as in his fate, but also his 'Destiny' which in this context of the word is the equivalent of a soulmate, a blessing previously denied all dragon brethren for hundreds of years. This series is totally unique, as is all Michaels' work, and completely unlike anything I've ever read. I became a devoted Michaels fan several years ago after reading Sabrina's Vampire and The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire Series, and now I devour everything she writes. Michaels is a gifted storyteller as well as master wordsmith with a boundless imagination who is excels at creating remarkably original worlds and then populating them with unique, well developed characters.
But I digress, let's talk about the mechanics of this story. The story is original, exciting, fast-paced, heartwarming and well crafted. The dialogue is smart, sassy, well executed, at times humorous and flows effortlessly. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple points of view from several of the characters, which I love by the way. I enjoy the story so much more when the author gives the reader more than one perspective. It gives us a better comprehension of not only the story, but also the characters, allowing us a glimpse into their thoughts giving us an enhanced understanding of their behavior and decisions. And that thought brings me to my favorite element of all Michael's stories, the characters. They are captivating, intriguing, engaging, sexy as sin and quite often, funny. I always fall head over heels for her loyal, courageous heroes and sassy, kickbutt heroines as well as her masterfully written villains, the kind we all love to hate. And the two protagonists of this story are no exception. I totally fell in love with the brooding, brave and devoted fire dragon Terigan, and his Destiny, the feisty, fiery, red-haired Luna. And as in the first book of the series, Luna is also not human, but I'll not be the one to spill the beans about what she is. No spoilers from me but I will say you'll be shocked again although the author did throw in a few clues along the way. This is one of the things I love most about Michael's books; she draws her readers into the the story with these little mysteries and surprising tidbits, keeps us guessing and always on our toes! I was so darn tempted to thumb to the back of the book in order to discover Luna's secret.... but I didn't! Somehow, I managed to resist the temptation! lol... No, really, I didn't peek! Terigan and Luna were a perfect pairing and played off each other brilliantly. Their interaction and banter was engaging, at times hilarious, very sexy and totally entertaining. I loved it! But I will admit, I've had quite a 'girl-crush' on the handsome, fearless fire dragon Terigan since his introduction in Battle and Betrayal, the final book of The Black Rose Chronicles and was thrilled when I discovered the second book of this series would feature him. Terigan was the valiant dragon who was mortally wounded while trying to save the Black Rose from certain death in the battle with Basilius, the King of Hell. Swoon..... so brave! He and Luna counterbalance each other completely, neither outshining the other. Utter perfection! This book demonstrates yet again that Michaels is a true master of her trade by skillfully combining every single one of these story elements to craft a delightfully entertaining paranormal tale filled to the brim with danger, drama, action, adventure, suspense, angst and sweet, heartwarming romance.
Basilius, the King of hell has finally been defeated, but the cost was great and many of the dragon's new allies were killed in the battle. Jaxon, Master of the Guild of Dragon Warriors was seriously injured as well as two of his warriors. Terigan, his second in command, and Allyssa, his ice dragoness comrade, are both mortally wounded during the battle and required healing by their Dragon Goddess Zeeandra. Jaxon and his Guild of Dragon Warriors have long dreaded the day their existence would be revealed to the world exposing their closely guarded secret, a village populated entirely by supernatural beings they'd rescued and protected from certain death. The dragon warriors have long feared for their safety but now that Cassius Allarde and his new mate, The Black Rose, along with their allies have defeated the King of Hell, the safe harbor they provided is no longer needed and many of the residents are ready to venture out into the world to hopefully find remaining members of their families who may have also survived the destruction caused by the war between the species which nearly destroyed the entire world. Ironically, it's both a happy and sad development for the warriors but fortunately for the dragons, their Goddess Zeeandra has decided the time is finally right to reward her faithful warriors with the ultimate blessing, their Destinies, a gift which has been denied them for hundreds of years. Jaxon, the Master of the Guild is the first dragon warrior to find his cinneamhain after recently rescuing Sidra from another evil demon. They are now happily mated and Jaxon has just received instructions from their Goddess for an urgent mission of utmost importance. Terigan, and strangely only Terigan, is to travel to the Highlands of Scotland to assist the Dragon Warrior Dughall in apprehending a group of rogue wolf shifters led by a crazed, corrupt alpha who is creating mayhem by raiding settlements and killing everyone who tries to confront him. The villainous alpha of this group is holding a group of prisoners, one of which is having a very strange effect on Terigan. For some reason, he's inexplicably drawn to the mysterious and beautiful red-haired captive. His unexplained feelings as well as his sex fueled dreams of the two of them together are playing havoc with his mind and his willpower. For the first time in his life, Terigan is distracted and it's affecting his ability to perform his job. And for the life of him, he can't figure out why. Oh my! Poor clueless Terigan! The beautiful, battered prisoner is none other than his Destiny! The evil Alpha wants to claim her as his own and has already killed her mother and sister in an attempt to force her to submit to his will. She's in grave danger and is running out of time! Oh no! Will the valiant Terigan be able to rescue the mysterious young woman before it's too late? And if he does somehow manage to pull off this miraculous rescue, will she ever trust him enough to reveal her secret? More importantly, could she ever love a monstrous fire dragon like Terigan? We'll see! No spoilers from me but I will say this...... Courageous dragon warrior-check! Feisty, mysterious young woman with her true identity shielded by magic-check! Danger, drama, action, adventure and suspense-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
When reviewing and rating a book, there are several questions I always ask. First, what did I love about this story? I loved the originality and uniqueness of the world, characters and premise for this entire series. Also, it's truly a pleasure to read an A K Michaels' book. They're always exceptionally well crafted, well written, well developed and well edited with beautiful covers and professional formatting. I very much enjoy the interconnectivity of the storylines and recurring characters. I was immediately drawn into this story and quickly became immersed in the stunning world my mind created as a result of Michaels' detailed and skillful writing.
Second, I ask what didn't I like about this story. Actually, not a darn thing. When reading one of Michaels' book, I always wish they wouldn't end, that I could just keep reading, but I know that's not possible nor practical. lol... They're just so darn good that I get caught up in the story and completely lose track of time.
Third, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only to adult readers since there are a few dreamy love scenes.
Fourth, will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book!
And finally, was I entertained? Good gracious, yes! I was totally entertained! I loved it! 'Fandabydozy' entertainment and an awesome read!
I have pretty much have read all of A.K.’s books I just simply love them all. A.K. is an amazing author who writes amazing plots with amazing characters. Her books transport you into the stories she writes.
Zeeandra the Dragon’s Goddess orders Jaxon the Master of the Guild of Dragon Warriors to send Terigan on a secret mission to Scotland. After all Scotland is Jaxon’s homeland.
Zeeandra will explain no further on this mission only that it’s the upmost urgency; but she sends Kuan, a Chinese God, to transport Terigan halfway around the world and both Dragons realize this mission is of vital importance.
Terigan meets up with Scotland’s resident Dragon Warrior and he reveals that a woman is being held captive by a pack of rogue Wolves. The stakes are enormous: Terigan must risk his life for the sake of a stranger, without even knowing why. But his Goddess and Master have placed their faith in him, and he won’t let them down.
This book as a few surprises in-stored for you and it should blow your mind. I just simply loved this book.
Terigan's secret mission, is just that, a secret, know one understands why he must be the one to go. There are dragon warriors closer and he is just coming off his death bed. But NO ONE questions the Dragon's Goddess, well not aloud anyway.
So Terigan goes to Scotland to help free a woman being held captive by a pack of rough wolves. What is so special about this woman that Terigan has to be the one to rescue her?
Well, this is one of Ava's truly great works, Terigan and unknown female will capture your interest and heart.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
