The sub-characters are wonderful. Very true to life. Witty, sad, compassionate (at least some of them), etc. -I physically wanted to to hug a few fictional characters in this book.
The killer is kind of a no-brainier, and certainly didn't come as a surprise. But even knowing who it was did nothing to take away from the story.
And the romance was smokin' hot. Wow! A+
Looking forward to the next one...please let it be CJ and Erin. I'm very curious as to the animosity between the two.
Fourteen years later she is back in the small community where her brother was killed to help in the search for a 14 year old girl that has gone missing. Figuring out who the kidnapper/killer was fairly easy. We are given his POV and the young kidnapped girl's POV throughout the book. There is no doubt that the killer was sick and perverted but there was another piece of the puzzle that was slow to be revealed that was both shocking and heartbreaking.
There were some interesting side characters. The Sherriff, CJ Kovac , who gave up his job with the FBI to raise his sister son when she died and the niece of the man who confessed to killing Kate's brother before killing himself. I'm hoping there is a future story on them.
The romance: The young Kate and Tommy were two sweet kids that were just about to take that next step in their relationship when tragedy struck. Both thought the other betrayed/left them which left two hearts broken in different ways and set them on paths that changed them emotionally. Neither has forgiven the other for the past. When they are thrust together to work the case lots of hurtful words are said before they finally finish what they started all those years ago. But that still doesn't erase all pain. It takes Tommy almost losing Kate before these two put the past behind them.
