Gunforce is game where you have to save the world from aliens but it's not like other sci-fi games for Super Nintendo. First reason: You can drive strange vehicles and even pilot a helicopter on the first of only five levels and you can even drive a boat across the water on the fourth level. Second reason: It's easy to beat after playing it awhile for those of you who are not good at playing sci-fi games. I've beaten this game five times and I still find it fun. What makes it funner though is when you're playing with someone else. The only thing that's bad though is that it is a one hit you're dead game.

I rarely dole out "One Star" reviews. To me, giving a game a single star indicates that it is absolutely beyond redemption, something that is the true definition of "bottom of the barrel"; it has to be devoid of any originality, broken to its very core, and grating to your nerves and patience. When you're dealing with a "One Star" game, you're dealing with something that makes you need a shower, and question whether or not you're going to experience a good game ever again. It makes you wonder how something like it could have ever been approved, and what the developers were even thinking when they "finished" it (I use the term "finished" very loosely here.) Irem's "GunForce: Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island" is one of those experiences, being something that, despite its short playtime, I wish would give me the time I spent playing it back.

If you're looking for a plot in this miserable pimple of a game, well, you're completely out of luck. Beginning with an opening cutscene that is lifted straight from the original NES "Metal Gear", you're a robotic superhuman with a jetpack and a laser gun/rifle/weapon-thingy. Your goal is to... well, to shoot stuff. There are bad guys, and you have to shoot at them, and there are boss stages at the end of each level. After the end of each level, you go... well, you go do the same thing in a slightly different stage. Why are you doing this? Why are you sending these armies of men to their graves? According to the game's plot, which has the intelligence of an inbred Kardashian, there's no reason at all. There's no motivation for what you're doing. For all you know, you're just some random terrorist blowing armies of hard workers and expensive technology to pieces for no good reason.
