Unfortunately, this book is out of print and the author is deceased, but his son is still living and he may be in a position one day to get it re-issued. Having corresponded with the author when he was alive, and viewed his log books, etc, and having compared his account with The Bomber Command War Diaries and Bomber Command Losses, I can safely say that as well as being a good read, Gunner's Moon is about as accurate as an aviation memoir written 25 to 30 years after the events can be. It is very informative about pre-war training for erks, life as an Auxiliary, and wartime air-gunner training, OTUs and bomber ops. It does for air gunners what Leonard Cheshire's Bomber Pilot and Guy Gibson's Enemy Coast Ahead did for officer pilots. I would recommend it to anybody who enjoyed those books and who wants to know what service life was like for a humble tradesman airman and get a rounder picture of Bomber Command at war.
