The text and photos go into detail on all the concepts and crafts needed to produce a Southern Mountain rifle, either from scratch or as a kit. The men illustrated in this book built every piece of these rifles, so they were accomplished blacksmiths, woodworkers, and tool and die makers. Everything from lock, stock, and barrel is covered in detail, including making the moulds to cast balls for each rifle produced.
I highly recommend this great book for anyone with an interest in how the old timers build their beautiful rifles.
