One reason I bought this book is for a subject I haven't seen covered elsewhere: how gun actions work. I had no clue how an automatic pistol actually operates (or, for that matter, a revolver, beyond the superficially obvious). Sweeney describes the basics well and clearly, with the help of photos of "cut away" automatics. It certainly is not a survey of all the types of automatic action that exist, but it covers the 1911 quite well, and with that background, others (like Glock or Boberg) are much easier to understand as variations on a common principle.
If a better understanding of how your guns work, how to do basic modifications or what is involved with a modification is your goal you'll find it here. The only downside is that the whole book could do with some updating and better photos.
