Product Description
Marshal Matt Dillon is in charge of Dodge City, a town in the wild west where people often have no respect for the law. He deals on a daily basis with the problems associated with frontier life: cattle rustling, gunfights, brawls, standover tactics, and land fraud. Such situations call for sound judgement and brave actions: of which Marshal Dillon has plenty. --Written by Murray Chapman

But regardless of the above-mentioned idiosyncrasies, there are times when watching this can still be pretty thought provoking also. Such as you realize how spoiled Americans are these days. What a great thing it is to have things like cars that most of us abuse and take for granted. How nice it is to have medicine at the advanced state it is in now compared to how it was then, things most of us don't really think about. At the same time you can appreciate the portrayal of a reality showing characters that ARE pretty aware of the fact that they are actually human beings and not Gods, the way humans tend to view themselves nowadays. And a reality where the only concerns that police had were to keep the peace, prevent violence, robberies, and murders, and arrest those who commit robberies and murders, as opposed to today's world where police tend to spread themselves very thin and put their noses in a lot of other things that should not be their concern, and you know that's probably why America will not be great again anytime soon, and so finally I say, that despite the shortcomings of programs such as this, they are still worth some time.
Definitely a great addition for the video library of anyone who likes the Western genre, or who likes solid character and good role models in the primary characters, and a strengthening of the ideas of justice, fair play, the rule of law, and even compassion and wisdom throughout.

Johnny Red, Crowbait Bob and Jailbait Janet are two excellent examples of this expansion. Both are somewhat comic and at the same time very realistic and human. This is not to say the season lacks westerns, Horse Deal and Kangaroo is one of the better stories.
The season is split into two purchases and you will want to make both purchases at once.
Gunsmoke, Season 5, Vol. 2 is scheduled to be released on December 13, 2011 - Just 2 months after the October 11, 2011 release date for Season 5, Vol. 1 - and JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!
Thank you, Paramount.
Remember Paramount was the studio that cancelled the original Star Trek TV series and was swamped with so many viewer complaints that they brought the series BACK.
These reviews ARE worth the effort. Keep up the pressure. Let the studios know what you want for your hard-earned cash. And place your "Pre-Orders" early - I've already placed mine. Nothing encourages studios to issue more releases like customers putting their money where their mouths are.
NOW IF WE CAN JUST GET PARAMOUNT TO INCLUDE SOME EXTRAS WITH FUTURE RELEASES...
--- (My 5-Star rating is based on the picture and sound quality of previous seasons.) ---

With all the crap that's on TV - and I'm really sick of "Reality" shows, these DVD's and other old TV series are about all I watch anymore.
Well worth the money if you are a western fan and enjoy TV without swearing every other word, without someone "getting laid" every episode etc.,..... and stupid computer generated special effects.
