So far, I couldn't be happier with the SpeedVault. NOTE - unlike other reviewers have said, the biometric SpeedVault DOES include a method to disable the beep. Just hold the Learn button for 3 seconds until the green light flashes and you hear a couple of beeps!!!
Hope the video review is helpful.
I have purchased 2 safes from Gunvault - the GVB 2000 and the SV 500 Manual. The 2000 Biometric as a safe place for my every day carry weapon and the SV Manual to keep another gun close to my nightstand.
The Biometric safe was set up to accept only my fingerprint and the SV 200 has a 4 pad keypad that is programmed to accept a code before opening. I have followed all installation instructions, and have double-checked my work.
NEITHER SAFE WORKS AS ADVERTISED. The biometric safe opens with any persons fingerprint. The Manual unsafe opens if someone holds down a single key for about 10 seconds. As a result, I believe the biometric safe is entirely unsafe - any child, including my own grandkids, out of curiosity, could place their finger on the fingerprint reader, and if they we lucky enough to touch the other release button, could have access to the safe's content.
Finally - I've tried contacting Gunvault's customer service department using the phone number included in the included manual. At any point of the day - I've been told via recording that the wait time would be at least 60 minutes. This message happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I've called them. (the phone number is set to pacific standard time).
Before purchasing, I read other's reviews, and saw that many are happy with the products. I've also read other reviews that said there were malfunctions, and that customer service was nonexistent. As more reviews were favorable - I chose to purchase.
I completely regret my purchase, and want others to know that Gunvault's service is horrible, and from this reviewer's perspective - THE PRODUCTS I PURCHASED ARE UNSAFE for anyone to use to keep their firearm from someone that should not have access. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS!
My real issues with the vault are due to the hardware, specifically the mounting plate screws provided. They are cheap and short and needs to be replaced if you want this vault to be really secure from burglary (check out my pics to see the screw provided its about 1/2" bite). With the screws provided I feel that if I gave a few kicks/stomps to this mounted vault, it would come off fairly easily. But with the self tapping lag screws I bought from Homedepot (watch the head size) this is now 10x harder to get off. Depending on where you are mounting it (night stand, computer desk, stud on the wall) the length of the screw you're going to use is going to vary obviously. The stud on the wall is going to be the best option, however not everyone has that option. Mine is currently mounted to the inside of my computer desk using 4 lag screws from Home Depot and one nut/bolt/washer combo (had to drill the hole on the plate myself). Now I believe this system is secure. The only way a burglar is going to get access to that firearm is by breaking down the computer desk first, then taking the whole safe with him so he can pry it open later at his leisure. Another issue is the thumb screws provided (mounts the vault itself to the base plate), they are small as well and also a weak point. I haven't gotten to upgrading that part yet, but will update this with my suggestions when I get there. Please see my pics for more details on this vault. Overall I am very pleased with this vault that I actually ordered another one for my bedroom.
