This high capacity renewable dehumidifier has been designed to adsorb moisture from small, enclosed areas. It will help protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to operate. Just hang the Gurin unit in a closet, or you can place it in other small, enclosed spaces, and it will start to adsorb moisture. There are no batteries required or cords to plug in, the unit works without power. There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be "renewed". The unit will adsorb approximately 8-10 ounces of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 6 - 8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed it cannot leak or spill. This unit uses a specialized, engineered, crystallized silica gel that is odorless, non-toxic and completely safe. When the indicator crystals turn pink it is time to "re-new" the unit. Simply remove the unit from where it is adsorbing moisture and plug it into a power outlet or power strip in a well ventilated area (bathroom with extraction fan, garage, outside, etc.). There is a built-in heater that will warm the crystals allowing them to expand and release the moisture as water vapor into the outside air. It takes about 12-14 hours to completely re-new the unit. When it is completely renewed the indicator crystals will change back to blue. The unit is brand new again and ready to adsorb another 8-10 ounces of moisture. The crystals will remain active for 10 years and we offer a 5 year limited manufactures warranty on all of our DHMD-110 units.

Please note, there are not a lot of beads within these units. They are not going to be able to adsorb a great deal of moisture so, if you place them in a room/closet/area with airflow, you cannot expect them to last very long before needing recharged. This is especially true if you live in a humid area or if you're trying to use them in a damp environment like a bathroom or basement.
If you use them in an enclosed application such as a gun safe, they still may not last long if the safe is cheap and allows a lot of airflow, especially if that safe is in your basement, near a humidity source or if you live in humid environment.
When recharging, the beads are heated to encourage the evaportation of the captured moisture. This requires the enviornment to be dry enough for that evaporation to occur! If you are trying to recharge and getting nowhere after 16 hours then your ambient humidity may be too high.
They are not sealed in their shipping container, so they will need a recharge. None of the three of mine arrived "dry" and they did not fully recharge after 12-16 hours on the cord. I went ahead and used them anyway, recharging them soon since they quickly adsorbed a lot of moisture during the first days in the containers where I use them. The second recharge worked much better and they seemed to get better and last longer after 4-5 recharges.
Each unit includes a cord and a "hanger" that you slot into a hole in the corner of the house. You can then use that to suspect the unit while recharging. I suspend these into open air to ensure the heat is dissipated and does not cause an issue. I have had no issues with melting, overheating, etc. When it's humid in the house, I direct an oscillating fan on the units during the recharge to help move air over them.
There are a few cautions on the back page of the Instruction Manual. The first states “Ensure the unit is upright when it is being charged.” This seems almost humorous in that the AC cord plugs into what I assume if the bottom of the unit meaning there is no easy way to assume it is ‘upright.’ It seems the best way to get close to following this caution is to have the unit hanging on its rather insecure hanger.
The instructions discuss blue and pink bead colors. My unit came with what APPEARED to be black beads with moisture droplets. I plugged it in for almost 15 hours and no change. I let it cool and tried again with then a hint of blue. The third time was the charm.
Summary: Nice quality product at a reasonable price.
Additional comment: I was so happy with this that I bought a second one.!
