The problem occurs during really heavy rain where there is a valley or downspout from an upper area that concentrates runoff in one spot. In those situations, if there is debris, it can cause the heavier than typical flow to skim over the top. Keeping it clean in that area is all that's required to fix that. There's an additional problem when the point of concentration is too far upstream from the downspout. In my installation, there are two locations where the distance from concentrated flow to downspout is 20 feet or more. When the foam is clean, the concentrated flow will flow through the wedge of foam and into the gutter just fine, but the free area inside the gutter where the water can flow past the foam is too small and water backs up. An adventure up the ladder during a heavy rainstorm showed that at the high end near the point of concentration, my gutter was completely filled to the brim and pouring over like a waterfall, while 20 feet away near the downspout, the water was less than 1" deep.
My solution to open up more flow area, and so far it's working, is to cut the foam into an L shape using a utility knife. See the picture I've added. Don't cut the top part too thin or it will sag.Read more ›
We have found that installing this product as directed does in fact leave space for leaves to accumulate. I do think that our gutters are slightly deeper than most, but regardless, there is a flat shelf where leaves can build up.
I did a little experimenting, and found that another piece of foam placed upside down on top of the first piece leaves an angled surface. Leaves do seem to shed nicely off this sloped face. I have attached a photo that shows this nicely. You can see the middle space has the extra piece and it is clear. The foreground and background sections are starting to build up leaves. The only downside to this solution is that it costs twice as much per foot, but I was able to shop around and find it at a reasonable price.
Clogged gutters can be a huge problem and cause all sorts of damage. So far, this has been the perfect solution to keep my gutter clear and free-flowing year round.
These are light weight and can be cut to length. They're also high-flow and you can't see them from the ground/road.
Not sure if the Pro stuff is worth the upgrade over regular. It appears to be better quality and should last longer, but time will tell.
Such a shame -- if they would just make the product bigger, or have a half-circle aluminum piece with many holes in it to let water thru, that sits underneath the product, which would raise the top of the product flush with the top of the gutter. I would not even care if 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the product showed from the street, as it would work beautifully then.
And maybe this is my fault, but I installed the entire 160 feet of product, so I don't believe I can return the product. Expensive mistake. Avoid this product.

Works great for a few years, but the "stuff" deteriorates to the point where it's useless. I'll be replacing all of mine in the spring with something more permanent.Published 8 months ago by Amazon Customer
