One of Guy Ritchie's best film in a while.
5 out of 5 stars
One of Guy Ritchie's best film in a while.
From what I know of It's Ritchie's first war film and he did a pretty good job. Lately he's been a hit or miss in his film and this is one I actually recommend to watch. The advertising in here doesn't mention or show it but in my picture you will get the answer you were wondering about. And that is does this has a digital copy? And the answer is yes. The only downside is that there is no 4K version for sale in disc format. That only seems to be exclusive for only digital purchase or rental.

I am a MASSIVE Guy Ritchie fan but I'm not blind to his bad movies. Wrath, Operation, Swept... He's had some bad ones for sure but his good ones are SO good that I'll always dive in head-first. This is more serious than most other movies he's made and he pulls it off brilliantly. Not a ton of special features as per usual with Guy's home releases but sadly that's just expected at this point.

I'm thankful someone brought attention to the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) issue. Although this film is said to be fictitous, "The Interpreters" (2018) is a documentary about "Philip Morris" & other real interpreters who served our country patriotically, only to be left behind to be hunted by the Taliban. It is available to stream on various providers including Amazon Prime. I highly recommend viewing it also to see how real the threat our comrade at arms interpreters face who we left behind. Guy Ritchie's The Covenant's story is entirely plausible & in fact if anything oversimplifies the SIV issue. The visas were supposed to take at most 9 months to process but took many years. The 9 months was part of the federal statute & was not meant to be negotiable, changed, or exceeded in any way. Instead we left behind those who proved their allegiance to America by risking not only their lives but the lives of their family & friends when them & their families should have been brought back home to America when their tour was up just like the troops we sent over there. Best movie I've watched since Top Gun:Maverick & is superior to even it in that it is much more plausible. 5 solid stars.

Guy Ritchie's "The Covenant" is a captivating wartime drama that delves into the complexities of loyalty and survival. The film follows U.S. Army Sergeant John Kinley, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and his Afghan interpreter, Ahmed, portrayed by Dar Salim. After a harrowing ambush, Kinley is severely injured and left behind, prompting Ahmed to risk everything to save him. Their journey through dangerous territory forges an unbreakable bond, showcasing themes of sacrifice and brotherhood. Ritchie's direction brings a raw and visceral edge to the story, blending intense action sequences with poignant character moments. "The Covenant" is a powerful exploration of the human spirit amidst the chaos of war, making it a must-watch for fans of gripping, character-driven narratives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Afghanen im Stich lassen?
Reviewed in Germany on March 3, 2025
