Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Guys' Guy's Guide to Love is the man's successor to Sex and the City. After flooding the bookstores, it should find a place on the airwaves as 'The Rolex Mafia' or 'The Stolichnaya Jungle.'"
Dan Wakefield, author of Going All The Way and New York In The Fifties

"Prepare to man up and hunker down for this exuberant guided tour of the male sexual psyche."
Ian Kerner, NY Times best-selling author of She Comes First and Love in the Time of Colic

"GREAT book, fun read, very 'real'"
Janis Spindel, founder of Janis Spindel Serious Matchmaking, Inc.

"A contemporary look at "Mad Men". Very compelling, very interesting, almost addictive. Manni knows too much about women."
Judy Wald, "the master manipulator and undisputed leader in the ad placement scene for forty years," according to New York Magazine

"Manni astutely captures the mindset of guys with respect to dating and relationships and spins a tale of lust, greed, and ego revolving around advertising executives in New York City. A well-written parable about a man whose life begins to spin out of control and another who needs to live in his friend's shoes before he realizes his own true character."
Brad Berkowitz, author of The 21st Century Guide To Bachelorhood

About the Author

Robert Manni is President of advertising agency Agent16 in midtown Manhattan. For the past two decades he has watched, played and succeeded in Madison Avenue's relentlessly changing game. He is a world traveler, Reiki Master and teacher, certified advanced clinical Master Hypnotist, graduate of the Jose Silva Method/Life System, NYC Marathoner, and a bona fide 'Guy's Guy' who somehow survived twenty years of single life in the big city.

The Guys' Guy's Guide to Love is Robert's debut novel. He is currently working on his second book.

The best word to describe this book is "fun". It's fun to read whether you enjoy plots with lots of twists and turns, you live or work in NYC, you work in the advertising, or you just enjoy reading about the differences in the ways that men and women relate to each other.

Max, Roger, Cassidy, and Veronica are all memorable characters in various stages of transition. The book revolves around a very clever plot device that's unlike anything you've seen or read before, which just adds to the fun. I could definitely see this page-turner forming the basis for a movie or TV series down the road!

Manni has performed that rarest of feats: a frothy, fun, sexy novel that's actually about something. It's a glamorous, blue-skies New York story with characters that will resonate with readers of all types of fiction. By turns, it's romantic, hilarious, and gripping, a story of friendship, love and sex, of men and women and the webs we spin for each other, with edge-of-your-seat business drama working like an undertow, pulling the reader through the pages. A great read, start to finish, and an impressive debut.

The Guys' Guy's Guide to Love is a sexy, fun, and, at times, raw look into the minds of men. It's an expose of the inner-workings of 30-something men in NYC and their constant juggle of work, girls, and ego. Although a sort of confirmation of all of the things women suspect (but don't want to believe) of men, it leaves us girls with hope that guys can pull it together. The characters in the novel are unceasingly believable, whether you've dated them, befriended them, or maybe even mirror them yourself. All in all, this is a fun read and finally gives us a guys' perspective on dating and life in fast-paced NYC.

The Guys' Guy's Guide to Love manages to do a lot in a very digestible amount of space. The author exposes the troubles of contemporary gender dynamics with an entertaining and fun story that takes place in the city that has as much personality as the characters in the novel. The book is as refreshing as it is enjoyable. Manni's insight into his characters and knowledge of the world they live in conveys a cool authenticity. The reader can trust what the reality of the plot, and nothing seems forced. A great read for anyone.

This book is set in New York City, in that area, and I will say that the characters seemed very, very real. I'm from California, my boyfriend is from New York and everything that he has ever described to me about how New Yorkers are, how they interact, how love is the Author got perfect.

The characters were very like able. Roger, who is very smooth, very honest, very.. honest to Max at least, not to women, was like able and yet you kind of wanted to punch him at times. Max who is the person that this book really revolves around is the typical good guy and he looses his way a bit chasing after the big dream, the American dream of being famous, rich, having everything. His relationships were interesting. He was dating this girl named Veronica who was forcing him to do bigger to be better she always wanted more. He was trying to make her happy. He changed jobs from a smaller agency that he loved and went to a powerhouse agency where it was all about politics. He wasn't happy there. He wasn't happy with the way the agency ran and the cut throat nature of the business. I know ad agency's are basically trying to one up each other to win the client however this agency that Max was working at it wasn't just the clients or the other ad agency's it was very very much a cut throat work enviornment. Cassidy is actually his former bosses daughter, from the smaller ad agency, they are best of friends who had previously dated and the whole time I was like 'Please Max and Cassidy.. Please just get back together! You guys belong together'.

The Guys' Guy's Guide to love is a book thats about everything. About karma and living right, love, women and men and the way we see each other.

I downloaded Guys' Guy's a couple of weeks ago and read it over a series of several late nights, finishing it about 5:00 a.m. on a Tuesday, regretfully remembering that I can no longer pull all-nighters, for whatever enjoyable purposes, and expect to be able to function successfully. Oh well.

There are lots of things I really liked about Guys' Guy's.

The characters really came alive (with their halos and warts). I really wanted to know what was going to happen to whom, and when, and to see who did or who did not get their desserts, just or otherwise.

I was drawn into life in the highbrow advertising industry, which I knew virtually nothing about before.

The book flowed smoothly, with plain language, making it very easy to get sucked in without distraction. The fluidity enhanced the story and plot, making it incredibly easy to manage the cast, the setting, and the transformative nature as the novel progressed.

The plot and action and characters and setting were all great, but what I walked away with that is most valuable is the set of world lessons the book conveys. I don't want to spoil it for new readers, but I will say that the form, style, substance and I guess the mechanics of the book worked very well with the characters, plot and action...and worked well with whatever it was that leads to a set of memorable lessons for anyone.

You don't have to be a New Yorker, an ad executive, or a single looking (or not looking) to enjoy Guys' Guy's. I appreciated that the general messages of the book not only worked in the context of male/female online dating, but also worked (work) in the context of general inter-personal, non-sexual, everyday relationships between and among people of all stripes and varieties and stations.
