First, I would like to state that this is an outstanding book, which, if updated, should be on every woman's bookshelf. The information is well presented, informative and very educational. However, starting on page 134 the authors discuss the use of a morcellator to remove fibroids, which has been subsequently banned by the FDA as it can lead to the spread of cancer cells in some cases. Read this book, but beware, this technique for fibroid removal is seriously and dangerously outdated. This book is an excellent resource and deserves to be updated.

I picked up this book a week before my surgery was scheduled and by reading it I was able to request a smaller surgery. Folks, some procedures are commonly recommended by doctors and for that reason the doctors don't always describe other options that may be available. This book may help you understand what you DON'T know so you can ask your doctor better questions. I was looking at a full hysterectomy and a 6 week recovery time and ended with a myomectomy and a 2 week recovery time. This book helped me be a better patient advocate for myself. Seriously, this book is a "must read" if you or any woman in your family is experiencing GYN issues.

I love this book. Its like having an owners manual for your female parts. It was easy to read and covered all the problems a woman faces with their reproductive system. I bought lots of books when facing a hysterectomy, and this book was clear and to the point without scaring me to death. It will stay on my shelf because it covers common problems like fibroids, embolization, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, common bladder problems, hysterectomy options. Its written clearly and helped me talk to my Dr.

Dr. Parker delivered my second daughter......he, and the doctors in his practice, are very knowledgeable and are always updating their works. Though I work in the ER, I always learn something from this fine group of doctors. They have allayed my anxieties more times than I can remember. This is a great book for those of us with questions about bladder issues, fibroids, etc. A great book to keep on hand for reference. In addition, I refer several of my patients to the book: I often print out the Amazon page containing the ad for the book....for those of us aging, and experiencing different issues daily, it is indispensable. I recently got a copy for my daughter.

A very useful book. It discusses various gynecological problems and bladder problems, diagnosis, and treatment options. Unlike many books on the subject, this book includes newer treatment options, for example, totally laproscopic hysterectomy techniques that can preserve the cervix, and allow faster recovery. Discusses the risks of various options; even includes a few statistics.

If you are a female, you need this book. If you know a female buy her this book because one day she will need it or know someone who will need to borrow it. What a informative work of art. It covers every part of a female body, the good and the not so good part of being a female. But, it informs you of what to expect and not just take the Doctor's word for everything. It helps you understand what is being said and the procedures they are referring to in detail. This book may not be a revised version for 2015 but, the information still applies. I advise you to buy this book along with a current book and compare. Once you read this book, you will be able to make a precise and informative decision on what is best for you since everyone is not cookie cut like the Doctor's sometimes act like we all are. I also purchased "The Essential Guide to Hysterectomy" which is just a year old (2014 version) but I found this book "The GYN Second Opinion" much easier to read and understand and the pictures helped too. Best of luck to all those who are at this point in their lives.

Wish I'd known about this book 10 years ago. What a fantastic resource. This book clearly explains everything you need to know about the latest treatments for a wide range of gynecological concerns. And more importantly, the book's various sections give the reader plenty of information to be pro-active to follow up with their doctor. Be sure to buy the 2nd edition of this book as it has many important updates.

I really like the way author William H. Parker, M.D. mixes up each chapter with easy-to-understand explanations of women's health issues, first-person stories of female patients and the latest treatment options available. It was one of the most comprehensive discussions on whether or not a hysterectomy is needed I've come across.

My Gyn had recommended a hysterectomy due to abnormal bleeding and other issues I'd experienced during the past year. I was so impressed with the book, I made an appt with Dr. Parker for a second opinion. It was well worth it as he was every bit as informative as his book and allayed my concerns. He also told me at this time I do not need a hysterectomy. I followed up with my Gyn and she now agrees with Dr. Parker. Buy this book today and become empowered about your health!

This book is a must have. This is not a read and send off to the goodwill type book. It is very informative and easy to understand. I was trying to make a decision about weather to have a hysterectomy or if I should go with alternative options based on what my doctor explained to me and what I've been reading up on. This book goes over what to expect before and after the surgery. It put my mind at ease and filled my head with appropriate questions to ask my doctor. I showed it to my doctor and she was impressed with it. By the way, this book offeres a lot more information than just hysterectomy advice. This book is definitely a book you want to read and hold onto for future references. I highly recommend it.
