To answer the other reviewer: Enrico is gone, passed away in 1979. This music will always get played on my stereo, no dust will collect on any Gypsy music! Unbelievable that national press has not picked up on this band. Sweetwater? A whole VH1 show on that? What we need is a VH1 special on this band. Talk about a band with SO much talent, yet no luck. The original born under a bad sign band. Band members: Bill Lordan (later with Robin Trower), James Walsh, Enrico Rosenbaum (RIP), Randy Cates, Doni Larson, Jim Johnson, and Jay Epstein. Sometimes sounds like Santana, but with wonderful vocal harmonies. The first three albums are priceless, stunning works of art. You can't go wrong purchasing Gypsy, In the Garden, or Antithesis. Worth every penny. More Gypsy details at: [...]

This is one of those rare albums that is timeless. The songwriting, arrangements and string accompanyment all contribute to a listening experience of rare joy. It has been classed as prog-rock; this an erroneous label, as it adheres more closely to the style of artists such as Poco, Dan Fogelburg, and countless other singer-songwriters. Enrico Rosenbaum, where are you? You and your cohorts created a masterpiece when you recorded this album!

Talk about snakebit! This band has some tough luck. The original "born under a bad sign" band. How about great lyrics, fine balanced musicianship, and fabulous vocal harmonies for starters? With all that talent, yet let down by bad management and 70's shifting taste in music (disco), plus internal problems. But this band almost made it big. Check out a real gem. Best in their genre.

I first heard Gypsy in the fall of 1970......Gypsy Queen Part I. Being a young musician myself, I was impressed by the acapella harmony beginning...the hard rock sound with Santana-like percussion during James Walsh's great Hammond B-3 solo. A friend bought the 8 track four months later and I became entranced with it. It was the very first album to combine almost all elements....classical, rock, jazz and country with powerful, moving lyrics and beautiful harmonies. I thought the songs combined to tell a story but was told by a relative of one of the band members ( James Walsh's brother-in-law ) I was lucky enough to meet that wasn't the case.
I saw Gypsy in concert, opening for the Guess Who in 1973 in Lincoln, NE. THey were every bit as good live as on record. I left when the Guess Who came on, they couldn't compare.
I was disappointed that the band didn't achieve widespread fame and recognition and disbanded so quickly ....and saddened to learn of Enrico Rosenbaum's death in 1979.
Gypsy quite simply was....is a work of genius.

As one reviewer said, this album is a mix of many different styles, based on a hard rock base (at least to my ears). I picked up this album based on the recommendation of my friend, Gary, the bass player in my band. It was 69 I think. I loved it at first listen. A few years ago I pulled it out and put it on the turntable and wow! It is still great all these years later. I do not have the CD yet but hope to get it one of these days.

If you are looking for an example of what great music came out of the late sixties and early seventies, you can't go wrong with Gypsy. Highly recommended.

I'll never forget one time when I heard of Dead and Gone on a Classic Rock digital station and the song blew me away, it was so good I couldn't get enough of it and I went about a year and a half trying to find this CD without much luck, and I tried to get my mother to order it for me but she refused but finally she got it for me as a Christmas present and I'm so happy that I own this CD, it's a shame that Gypsy never achieved the success that they truly deserved cause their music was so beautiful and they deserve more recognition on the classic rock stations but fortunately at Amazon.com the CD is full of great reviews and that's not always the case with some of the CD's that I like, my favorite songs are Gypsy Queen 1 and 2, Man of Reason, I Was so Young, Here in my Loneliness, Dead and Gone and Tomorrow is the Last to be Heard, I think that the people that has heard of Gypsy are likely to be in their 40's and 50's and they're barely heard of from the younger crowd.

I bought Gypsy's first album in 1971 after I heard it at a friend's house. I was nineteen years old then. It immediately became one of my favorite ablums. Truly wonderful music. One 28 year old reviewer here hit it right when he said they don't make music like this anymore. I still have it on vinyl, but unfortunately it's very scratchy. Guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay the $45 tag. It's well worth it!!!
