The world the author creates is unique and rich in possibilities on where it can go. From super heroes to aliens to fantasy magic it allows for all those genres to be tied into its stories without being clunky or forced.
The characters are easy to get attached too and their personal stories play in well with the action. The action is just gripping and so well written that you feel you are watching it being played out in front of you.
At first glance a female or gay reader as myself would probably shy away from the series as the writing is very obviously geared strongly towards a male heterosexual view of seeing the world so it can get a little off putting that all the women are seen in a sexualized context overtly but once the strength and personal power of the female rolls are realized on reading more that makes up for the moments of school boy fantasy that pops up from time to time palatable and just thrown in for laughs and not degrading. The overall respect for each heroines view point makes it all come together without feeling they are being exploited or made cheap.
Over all the author does a great job of creating a world with limitless boundaries to discover and populates it with people who grow in depth with every story told.
Keep up the work Mr Rau and I look forward to reading more. I hope this series never ends.
Thank you for a good read.
However, he can write great stories and in this case his primary plot threads are interesting and vibrantly detailed. This tale did a rather solid job of adding to the storyline. If you like the previous books, this is definitely worth the read.
Don't try to start with this one though, Kevin assumes you know who the characters are by now, and what their powers are. A new reader will be hopelessly confused by all the jumping around the story does.
I really look forward to the next book now, good job.
Reading the H.E.R.O. series is like living INSIDE a comic book...immersing us between the panels, into the personal lives of its supers. I can't wait for more!
If you haven't tried this series, do yourself a favor and do so. GREAT STUFF!
I don’t know if the author intended this as a joke, or forgot to take it out during (what passes for) editing, but during a fight Black Tiger says “the acid caught my chest in the right hypochondriac region.” He was hurt by the attack, but I didn’t get the feeling that he was a hypochondriac…
