I decided to take it out and fly it since I have a GoPro already. Everything hooked up fine, the only thing I can't do is turn the recording on or off but that may be me not having everything hooked up properly. But the 3D gimbal works great and the video is awesome. Took it up for a few minutes just to get used to it, all went well and no problems so far. I'll revise and update once I have more time in the air.
One note to be aware of, the documentation and instructions leave a little to be desired. You'll have to use a bit of smarts to get everything hooked up properly, there's plenty of pictures but the explanations aren't very thorough. I had to go online to figure out how to charge the battery but it's simple. Also, this thing has a few very small wiring to plug in and can be a little frustrating in those tight spaces. But, it's not all that bad, just takes a little patience. None of this applies to PrimeAccessories as this is from the factory. More to come.
Will update once we sort through correcting the issue.
03-05 update: after a few flights, I'm very impressed with the H500! A few things I'd like to mention: until you get very used to it, you're likely going to have it land hard or flip over. When landing in GPS mode, you'll need to flip it off once you're very close to the ground (like 1 foot) as it tends to want to bouce and may flip. Also, if you don't land straight on the landing gear, you may break one of the legs (like I did) because they aren't very sturdy, being plastic. It's an easy fix, I just inserted some aluminum tubing I had which is probably a good idea anyway. I'd recommend ordering a spare set of the lower legs and a set of props. I chipped one of my blades but it still flies good. And on binding the tramsmitter to the heli, the directions say turn the radio on first then the heli but that's opposite. Go online and research it. I still had problems with mine binding so I figured out if I turn the heli battery on, wait about 30 seconds then press the battery button, then turn on the transmitter, it binds every time. Just some advice.
02-2016 UPDATE I didn't edit my original post with the first crash because I wasn't sure if it was something caused by other hard landings but I bought another one of these after my first one suffered a severe crash and was almost destroyed. The second one was flown many times, probably 20-30 times with absolutely no crashes. not even really any hard landings. I was pleased! Then one day while flying, it just dropped to the ground like a rock and tore it up pretty badly. I was able to re-energize the motors and found out the SAME MOTOR HAD QUIT WORKING AS HAD ON MY FIRST ONE! This is what caused BOTH crashes!!! Like I said, on the first one, I thought it could have been my fault since I was learning to fly it and had a couple of minor crashes but not the second one. I would STRONGLY suggest not buying this thing, it is too risky to fly it and take a chance it might crash into a house, car, person, etc. It is heavy and it will go very high, if it hits something or someone, it's going to do major damage. I didn't contact the company because I figured they would blame me since I can't prove the motor just quit on it's own. There's been a ton of people reporting problems with this thing, I wish I had listened and bought something else. I basically have two broken units.....JUNK....with about $4000 invested, or better stated, thrown away. Caveat emptor....BUYER BEWARE!!!!
One serious draw back is the Low Voltage Protection built into the flight controller. It has a flaw in which it comes with a default setting that cuts the power to the motors if the voltage reaches a predetermined point. This setting is intended for RC planes not helicopters. This setting can be bypassed via the mission planner software. There is also one other flaw in which the motors can be easily disarmed on accident. The motors should require a more complex input to disarm as this can prove to be very dangerous!
Aside from these two dangerous issues I love the Tali500. It is a drone that commands the attention of everyone. It turns heads and the retractable landing gear make it that much more tough.
IUAS has been prompt in answering all my pre-sales questions, and so far I haven't even had a reason to contact them post-sale because the unit has worked perfectly out of the box.
GREAT looks, great flight times, great payload capacity, and best of all? Not a DJI product!
If I had one complaint it would be for rather slim documentation. You can get by, but they need a real manual and a real English speaking individual to properly go over it. There are grammatical errors galore, and in some cases it's very hard to understand due to the brevity.
Parts availability is also a problem for the carbon black edition. IUAS needs to make them available ASAP.
Edit: It's been about a week now and she's still doing great, but you may want to check out purchasing directly from Walkera now, rather than iUAS (even if they do get them in stock again). Walkera now stocks the black edition, AND they sell the RTF, BNF and FPV versions. The FPV version (the one I bought), is quite frankly a rip-off compared to the RTF version. They are charging a $600 premium for the iLook camera + 3D gimbal. These pieces may be purchased separately for at least $200 less than that bundle premium, which is counter-intuitive and misleading. DO NOT BUY THE FULL FPV package for $1899! Buy the RTF package for $1300 and if you want the iLook and G3D gimbal, purchase them separately and save.
I would personally like a $600 refund and send them the iLook and Gimbal back, but I doubt they would do it.
