Yu-Gi-Oh

Product Description

A seemingly simple race across the desert may not be so simple as players try to lead their caravan of camels to the oasis. Players are each dealt the same 12 cards, some allowing movement forward, some causing others to move back. The first to get their thirsty camels to the oasis wins.

We opened and played this game today for the first time. Haba games are wonderful, and this one is no exception. The components are well made and durable and the illustrations are bright and colorful. The basic idea of the game is that you each start out with 3 little colored wooden camels and you have to get them from the desert town to one of the coveted oasis spots. Each person has their own set of 12 cards total, having 3 in the hand at one time. If you play a 2 palm tree card, for example, you move one of your camels 2 spaces but if another camel is on one of those spaces, you get to skip that space. The result is that you have a CARAVAN of camels meandering across the board, and you can use this rule strategically. There are Mirage cards to move your opponents backward in the same method, potentially all the way back to the desert town. :-) There is also a Sandstorm card that requires everyone to shuffle their dozen cards and a Cameleer card to guide your camel to the desired lead position. This game definitely has some strategy to it, but I believe a 5 yr old could master it. My barely 4 yr old daughter didn't get the strategy aspect, but she enjoyed playing. She got a little weary near the end. My 7 yr old daughter throughly enjoyed it, and I won't mind playing it at all! Definitely recommend this for 4-9 age demographic. :-) Another great Haba game!

I absolutely love this game. To be honest, I purchased it because I love camels, and I also work with kids.

I've played it numerous times with children ranging in age from 6 to 10. The older kids enjoy the strategy aspect of the game. The younger kids really like the cute camel pieces.

The game is simple to understand and usually takes about 15 minutes to play. I really enjoy the cute illustrations on the game board and cards, and the bright wooden camel pieces are good quality.

I'm honestly surprised at how much strategy this game has for a children's game. The choices that are available on each hand actually have a lot of variety and depth for as simple as they are. Mechanics sound easy enough. Move a camel forward or backward but, the timing and effect of movement (similar to Speculation in how camels skip occupied spaces) are super important. We had a very fun time playing this one and I recommend it for any family looking for a deeper kind of children's game.
