In the movie "Hurt Locker" the fighting and bomb hunt made for arm ripping gut wrenching scenes. This was offset with a cooling period where we was shown how troupe deal with the stress. Doc (Jeff) in our galactic war is in tech heaven. So Johnny fooling around with a pistol for a month(?) Didn't seem right. Jane and John lost their home. I wold think they wold want to spend some time in the RV and popping off some regular (human) guns. I mean, didn't they shoot +1000 rounds a week for practice? Getting back to the RV. This is a bit of home. John could surprise Jane (and kids) with a renovated RV and have a picnic! It was disappointing (but realistic) that the RV only got looked at and bogged down on the first real firefight. Yes it's probably stupid to redo the RV for galactic use but hey! "It's Johnny the ape man!"
The HADRON series is a lighter version compared to the SODIUM and AMP series. I hope the author can keep it that way as the little things are what we remember. Especially when no one really wants think about the past.
I'm giving this 4 stars for a good read. I always re-read a series before starting on the newest book. So sometimes it gets a bit tedious on the battle action. Yes, it's a space battle. But I read it for the "What if?" Scenario. Mace is still a bit to trusting. He still "doesn't check the corners" let's hope he gets some help from a wiser mentor. Actually he probably needs a more cynical guy (or gal) like a former spy type. (Scarlett J. maybe?)
