Being that stainless steel is undeniably durable, is it not only able to take on a goodly amount of force and pressure, it is also able to take on the constant rigours of day-to-day abuse. This durability is one of the reasons why it is is perfect for bathroom floor grates and drains and shower grate.
Steel is non-corrosive, and is therefore one of the best material that can be used in a bathroom setting, especially if one intends to install linear shower grates or drainage grates. Did you see where I mentioned READ THIS FIRST! in the title? Here's why. Look at any of the sub-5 star ratings for this drain. What do they have in common? The purchasers didn't read the description and they don't understand that ALL plumbing is modular. If you buy a sink, do you expect the P-trap to come with? Nope, just the drain, same here, just the drain pipe, you need to buy the PVC drain and the gasket just like you would for ANY linear drain.
Here is the good news, Amazon has the parts you need, and they are pretty darn cheap! First, the PVC floor drain, this one is an Oatey 42213 PVC Drain. They run about $10 bucks each. The second part you need is the gasket. Yes, you can pay 50 bucks or more buying a fancy set with gasket and drain, but why? Here is the BAI 0583 Rubber Gasket For Linear Drains, it runs about 7 bucks delivered on Amazon.
This linear shower drain is a steal for the price! I attached a couple pictures of the floor drain and the gasket, nothing special here folks, a little silicone grease to help the stainless steel pipe to slip into the gasket and you are golden!
The sheer flow volume from an 8 inch rain shower overwhelms this drain. This presents a serious flooding issue in my curbless shower enclosure. It may work with a standard shower head but beware theres going to be a sliw outflow with a rain shower you may experince flooding or find you self ankle deep in standing water depending on your shower type. I will switch the grate out before trying to rip the whole drain out.
I do find that the hair trap tends to plug once in a while and it backs up the water a little, but then again that happens in most shower drains.
