I have several IDE drives which I like to use on a NAS system. I cannot see throwing out old drives when they can be used. Looking at alternatives I did not find much of anything that I could use my IDE drives on the new motherboards... they are all SATA. I decided to give this product a try. I had purchased 5 of these cards... when they finally arrived the first thing that I noticed is the circuit boards are oxidized. They were all that way. I decided to try them anyway, 2 of 5 worked. The others are DOA... it would cost me more to ship these back than what I paid for them in the first place (shipping was even more than the items themselves).

Stay away unless you care to take the gamble.

Adapter worked great, after I figured out how to properly install it. It comes without any instructions. It only fits one way into the IDE HD, and the HD must be jumpered to Master. You also have to use the regular power connection to the HD and also the power adapter to the adapter. Then you attach the SATA cable to the connection next to the power supply.

I bought one of these when building my new system, because the older EIDE cable technology has largely disappeared in favor of SATA. I have some older systems and wanted to copy their drives to an archive area on the new system. This is exactly the device I needed! And you can't beat the price, either!

The only thing to keep in mind (when operating in SATA-to-IDE Drive mode) is that you have to jumper the disk drive to operate as the "Bus Master." Apart from that, it worked great with a variety of drives from 30GB to 80GB.

Do I really need to say more? This product is very easy to install and is clearly labeled for the direction the IO connection you want to make from host to drive or drive to host. Be sure to connect the little power supply connector as well as the power to to the drive or nothing will happen. Windows 7 detects it automatically.

Guys, it worked for me after something playing around with it

if its not working it may be one of two reasons:
1] the sata wire is plugged into the wrong sata socket on this chip. [there are two of them]

2] you have plugged the chip onto the ide upside down, [it fits in boths ways]

This item is plug and play, just make sure you plug the SATA cable into the correct plug. One is for SATA to IDE and the other is the reverse of that. You need a small power plug for the card and you also still need the larger power plug for the hard drive. I needed the adaptor for IDE drive to SATA motherboard and have had no functional problem with it, just a physical problem that I explain below.

I gave the adaptor four stars because the card is long and interferes with some kind of motherboard connector slot no matter where I put the hard drive in the computer case. I couldn't put the hard drive where I wanted it since the card covered the IDE input slot and made it unusable.
I put the hard drive lower in the case and had to work other cables around the card. If you hard drive mounts far enough away from the motherboard, or mounts above it, this may not be a problem for you.

In Summary, keep in mind that this card adds a couple of inches to the back of your hard drive. Before you buy it look in your case and you can easily see what will be covered over to determine if you can use it or not.

This device makes it possible to make IDE drives hot swappable. (tested with 40Gb, 80GB, & 250Gb hard drives)
Does not work with CD/DVD drives.
just make sure you connect the power to the hard drive and the adapter BEFORE you plug in the SATA cable. That way the hard drive will already be spinning by the time you plug the data cable in. If your hard drive is clicking, then it probably will not work with this adapter.

if you are using the device to convert IDE drives for use with a SATA motherboard plug the sata cable into the port marked "SATA host => IDE HD" ie the MIDDLE one.
If you are using this device to convert SATA drives for use with a IDE motherboard plug the SATA cable into the port marked "IDE host => SATA HD" ie the one on the edge (by the red led light)
