Very Poor Quality
One star might be a little too generous. I will not be purchasing these again. I build small little amplifiers and boom boxes, most of them don't require very much power due to their small form factor but even at 1-2 amps these are a safety hazard. Not to mention the unwanted noise that is now introduced into my circuit.Other reviewers are correct in pointing out the deceptively thick insulation and very thin conductor. I should also point out that the conductor is very brittle. If you use a regular wire stripper, prepare to unintentionally rip some strands trying to get the shielding off. Perhaps this is old copper, or maybe it's diluted with other low grade metals. I stripped the wire and photographed it in good light against a clean sheet of paper to demonstrate. Of the strands that did not rip during stripping, I counted 18 strands total! 18 very brown and oxidized strands that are about the thickness of a 30-something balding male hair.Now I have to order something else and wait while my projects sit on hold and the money train stops. When it has to perform, get something else. Even if it doesn't have to perform, get something else.

I tested all ten of these pigtail connectors, and all of them tested correctly, with the red conductor going to the center pin, and the black conductor going to the outer sleeve. I also tested for electrical shorts between the two conductors and found no shorts. The wire gauge is very small, but more then sufficient to drive my video cameras with infra-red lights. The pigtails arrived with all of the conductors pre-tinned with a tiny amount (1/8") of solder. I stripped about a 1/2 inch more insulation from the wires and soldered the exposed conductor, Then I doubled the conductor in half, and crimped this into the spade lugs and push-on connectors. When I split the red wire from the black wire to route them to different locations on my distribution panel, the black wire ended up being mostly black with a vertical red stripe. To ensure these conductors were solidly black, I merely used a black permanent marker on them. Everything was fine with this order!

These work ok/good enough. They're getting 5 stars because if you need a low power pigtail this one would work great.

I thought the gauge of these would be larger (around 18ga or 20ga).

Well, don't assume.

The gauge of the wire is very small (around 22ga), and I would have liked it to have been closer to the 18ga wire since many people that buy these are using these to power CCTV camera over 100ft of small gauge wire. It works, was tougher to solder because the wire is so small and fine.

I'm using them and they work, but I don't think I would have bought them if I would have known they used 22ga wire.

Overall, I like the construction. The DC barrel connector fits snugly and conducts well with the other adapters I have.

However, on testing the unit hooked up with a DC power source and my light unit, the thin wires that are attached to the DC barrel adapter started to get warm. I also found that the amount of energy reaching the unit was definitely much lower than what the AC->DC adapter was capable of producing.

I wish that HDVD had used a thicker gauge copper wire. The ones included in the 10" length is rather thin and are not capable of carrying higher currents without warming up the outer plastic sheath very noticeably.

The use case I was using these for: battery replacement for a 4xAA powered camera flash. I had hooked up a 5V@10A AC->DC barrel adapter wall wart to these adapters and wired it to the dummy battery in the flash. The flash powered on and the flash capacitor charged up. However, due to the thin copper wire in the leads, the high current draw of a flash re-cycle caused the wires to get warm and the recharge for full flash discharge was 2-3 times the length of time I would have waited with just batteries. :(

So for low current usage, these are probably fine. But for moderate to high current, I would use something else.

Gave 4 of 5 stars because of the thing wiring. Otherwise, it's a nice set of female dc barrel adapters.

Overall a good product. I did have one dead cable in the pack that would not output power. The cables that did work were perfect for my projects.

update 7-18-14

I was overall pleased with the first pack i received so i ordered two more. But the 20 i received are different from the the 10 i got the first time. They are of course the same plug type, a 2.1 x 5.5, but the plug is redesigned. it doesn't look like the one in the picture. i was using these in a device that i had 3d printed to use that specific head. now that i have these they don't fit. i am going to have to redesign the part to work with these plugs which is very frustrating. because of that i am lowering my rating from 4 stars to 3 stars. I would attempt to contact the seller but it would cost way too much time money and energy to return this for an exchange.

Update 7-28-14

So out of the additional 20 i received i have had one bad one. not really a problem but i am still aggravated that they are different from the first batch. If i move to injection molding of my product i need them all to be the same.
