Only two weeks until the wedding. Joshua is anticipating Remy's return tomorrow. This is the first time they've really been apart and he is looking forward to holding her in his arms again.

While walking through the country park, Joshua spies a secluded bench and stops to rest for a bit. The next thing he knows, it's dark out and the park gates are locked. He'll have to sleep in his car until the park rangers open up in the morning.

Remy disembarks from the plane and searches the crowd for Joshua. Her heart leaps when she meets his warm gaze. Rushing to him, she's crushed in his embrace. His enthusiastic kisses turn painful and sensing Remy's discomfort, he apologizes for getting carried away.

After a passionate night of lovemaking, Remy awakens to unusual soreness. Her reflection in the mirror shows bruises all up and down her body. After the way they pounced on each other last night, she figures they both got a little crazy after two weeks apart. Then it happens again, only this time she has scratches and abrasions all over and she's stiff and achy.

When Joshua sees what he's done, he's shattered. He would never hurt Remy. Why is this happening? Remy assures him she's okay but Joshua won't be consoled. He rushes out the front door, calling to Remy that he loves her and he's sorry.

With little time to worry about Joshua's sudden departure, Remy heads off to work. When she returns home later, she senses something is not right. She spots the letter on the table. She reaches for it with shaking hands, fearing what's inside. It's goodbye. Calling himself a monster and a danger to her, Joshua has left, never to return. She races through their home and sure enough, all of his clothes and toiletries are gone.

I never read a book quite like Heart Search. At first it seems like a horror story, then a romance is mixed in, and then things go - sideways.

It begins with a creature hiding in wait. He attacks a man named Joshua, who is in the park thinking about Remy, the woman he is about to marry. What happens to him will change both their lives forever.

When Joshua comes home to Remy, he has obviously been changed drastically. After a few devastating scenes, Joshua takes off. He is disgusted with himself.

Remy decides to go after him, and at this point the book follows her search - her Heart Search - and Joshua's adventures with his new life. Her search takes her around the UK, exploring different towns and villages.

The writer obviously knows the country inside and out, and it is fascinating to read about different areas of England. It's like a travelogue, with the added dimension of a travelogue of the heart. Remy searches the country, but she also searches that unexplored wilderness of her own soul.

Joshua, meanwhile, is experiencing a very different kind of adventure. He meets the others like him and gets completely immersed in their world.

At the same time, some very odd things begin to happen to Remy, leading her beyond the "woman's fiction" style of her half of the adventure.

The two plot threads are woven together nicely and I never lost track of what was going on. Furthermore, Carlie Cullen's writing style is very clear and professional, and she handles the two sets of characters beautifully.

There is a cliffhanger ending, but the story is resolved enough to make reading this book a very satisfactory experience. I really enjoyed Heart Search thanks to the writer's skill and characterization.

I enjoyed reading debut novel "Heart Search: Lost" by Carlie M.A. Cullen. Not being one for paranormal stories usually, I was swayed once I began reading because Ms. Cullen made the story particularly believable, where many of this genre fail to engage the reader in suspending their belief because they're either too fantastical or entirely predictable.

The settings are painted so vividly that I felt as if I had accompanied Remy on her odyssey to find her soul mate Joshua and I could probably take one on a tour of the coven's mansion and it's grounds. The characters are intriguing and Ms. Cullen fleshed each out with extraordinary detail.

I can see why this novel is the first in a trilogy, as its content is chock full of possibilities. I'm eager to get my hands on the next book to see how the story unwinds and I recommend that you invest in the journey as well.

Is this book any good? Should you fork out the dollars for it?

In a nut shell? YES!! In fact it's that's good that you should probably gift a few copies to your besties, because they are going to love it too!

I was going to do a standard book review on it, but I know many of you (myself included) tend to look at those big long reviews and get all glassy-eyed. Personally, I just want to cut to the chase and find out about the awesome bits and the not so awesome bits.

So here they are:

AWESOME

Vampires - and not the ones that sparkle and get all morally obnoxious about sex before marriage. There is blood and murder and downright glorification of the fact that these vampires see us as food. They consider themselves superior to mere mortals and hang only with their own kind (unless they're dining out, of course). The main vampire character, Joshua (who is turned at the very start of the story and leaves his fiancé practically at the altar), does tend to suffer a little from just-turned angst, but that is perfectly acceptable behaviour as far as I'm concerned!

Romance - Now you know me, I'm not a big fan of sickly sweet romance so I am always a little hesitant when I pick up any book in this genre - especially paranormal romance and even more so when it is in the YA genre. The romance in Heart Search: Lost is sweet and by the end of the book, poignant. There is plenty of passion between the main characters and they are certainly in love at the start of the book. Once Joshua is turned into a vampire and disappears, the love Remy maintains for him is truly inspiring.

Paranormal/reality fusion - As the author, Carlie M. A.
