Top Customer Reviews
I will not be buying Henkels' products ever again. There are quite a few German knife makers who still make their own knives in Germany, but Henckels is no longer on that list, and it very much shows.
These knives are very solid and do not have the plastic feel many people fear. They have a good weight behind them as well which is attributed to their single steel construction. The knives are very sharp out of the box like one would expect. Slicing vegetables was very easy and chicken breasts didn't stand a chance. I already had a 4-piece set of the steak knives so I knew they worked good. The serrated teeth are very fine and cut through steak with ease. I also want to mention that the steak knives are of the same construction as the rest if the knives. I know some of the more "affordable" sets by reputable companies include steak knives of cheaper construction than the rest of the set. The block has great color and is neutral enough to look good on a variety of different counter tops. This set does not include a bread or filet knife but they are available separately and can be picked up for $30-50 a piece depending on where you buy them. I actually bought this set at Bed Bath and Beyond which had them for $199 but with a 20% off coupon they became $159. Like I said before, a 16 piece set that will last a lifetime for less than $10 a piece is without parallel.
I looked at Global, Shun, and Wusthof knife sets as well but they were all several hundred dollars more than I wanted to spend. I am confident these knives are very sharp and have the weight behind them many customers are looking for but seem more like a statement piece. I am by no means a professional chef, but I am no stranger to the kitchen. Another company I would encourage people to look at is "Mercer." They are known throughout the culinary world for producing great knives. I did not go with them however, because their knife block is made of glass so all the blades are visible which for me, provided an eery Michael Myers type feel.
In conclusion, these knives are great and I would recommend them.
