Shipping Mishap

I was pleased to be able to order 6 containers of this cocoa because we go through it pretty fast. However, when I took the plastic-wrapped cans out of the shipping box (which was in perfect condition), there was cocoa all over the inside of the plastic. When I unpacked the containers, I found that one had a broken seal, and that's why there was cocoa all over inside the bag. Given how thoroughly these cans are usually sealed, and how hard they are to open, I was surprised to see the seal broken. Not sure how or why that happened, but want to put the warning out there. Also should note, that since this was all contained within the plastic bag, we still consider the cocoa usable.

I've heard that Dark Cocoa is better for you than regular cocoa and that some even think that it tastes better. I wish that they packaged it with 1/2 (3 containers) of the regular cocoa and 3 of the dark. However, all that I could find was 6 of the regular OR 6 of the dark cocoa. I'll keep looking. As to quality, cocoa is cocoa. I use it when I make granola.

Good Natural Cocoa

This is cocoa. It is not chocolate, it is a component of chocolate. You need to learn to work with cocoa to achieve maximum enjoyment.
Cocoa is bitter and a bit gritty.
How you proceed depends on your desired results.
Hot Chocolate is a good place to start. If you like the packets, then you want sweet and creamy. About 2 1/3 to 1 ratio of sugar to cocoa is about right.
Try 2 tablespoons plus one teaspoon of sugar mixed with one level tablespoon of cocoa. One cup of hot (NOT boiling) milk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, plus a dash of salt. Mix well in a mug and enjoy.
Hershey's is a good cocoa and a good value in this offering.
Cocoa can also be used in baking (brownies, chocolate/devil's food/mocha cake, for example,) and chocolate or fudge confections and candies.

i dont have too much point of reference here as to how this compares to other higher priced brands. But i can say that this works well for most chocolate recipies. A point of advice is that if you prefer a deeper chocolate taste then mix 3 parts of this cocoa with 1 part of the dark cocoa and it will be perfect. That mix will also allow you to use a little less of the total cocoa that the recipe calls for (maybe one 10th) as a result your baked goods will be significantly moister. ( All baking cocoa will impact the final moisture content of baked goods)

I rate the cocoa 5 stars and packaging 1 star, hence 2.5 stars. It all was already described by other people so I won't repeat that open thin cardboard containers, lids off etc. The saving grace was the plastic bag all those 6 containers were in. It's a hassle to send it back, so I enjoy it out of the plastic bag. The price is ok, not great. You could get it at BJs for a fraction of it (one 23 oz box). Except that BJs ran out of it.
