Quick, quiet, and FAR LESS expensive than an inkjet. I had a need for inexpensive black and white bulk printing, and it performs well.

Scan is so light it is nearly illegible. When we called HP they told us if we wanted a good scanner get a Brother. LOL!

Bed for copying a page from a book is totally inadequate.Display is in an awkward place. Speed of copying is good
and copies are decent. I wish HP had more of their models in stores so you could actually see the copier before you buy.

Have purchased and used many many laser printers over the years. Mostly in business. Am currently mostly using a 15 year old HP2200dtn. Bought two of these M425dn's as potential replacements.

(1) Images good but too much blank space at edges.
(2) Paper handling unreliable (yes- HP long known for the very best paper handling of all printers can no longer duplex reliably)
(3) Jam error messages misleading (in comparison to earlier models). A "paper jam in cartridge area" means you have a jam in the duplexer. Previous models indicated "jam in duplexer". I assume there are fewer sensors to indicate where problem is. Makes printer cheaper. In more ways than one.
(4) Not truly a legal size copier. Will print on legal (I have optional tray on one of them) but no legal copying except on reduction. I would test it before this comment but since it is down again, I can't.
(5) Copies colored inks very well.
(6) If left on for long periods will go to sleep so soundly you must turn it completely off and back on to use. Wonder if I've missed any faxes?
(7) Once in "sleep" sometimes (not always) takes several touchpad inputs to wake back up. VERY reluctant to wake back up. (Its just like me waking in the morning - seems groggy)
(8) Instructions not supplied for "aligning" the touch pad. Call tech support and when they tell you there isn't any way, insist. Both my units needed it.

Latest "jam in copier error" which I can't correct (and I usually do any kind of maintenance including disassembly and repairs) This is my final failure on this copier/ printer. It is one month past the warranty period. Never thought I'd say this.... I'm going back to a Canon.

Follow up: Copier/printer cured. All it took was to leave it unplugged for 4 hours. (Yes, I had already tried turning it off and on several times!) Still would give it an unreliable "one".
