Great drive, has excellent longevity and failures stats (independent testing shows these drives at all sizes have fewer failures than any other drive currently on the market). But good grief, they are loud. I saw reviews that said they were loud and that they were not. I dont know how anyone could say they are not. They are. I have them in RAID1 mirroring for my wifes computer. The case doesnt have drive dampening (which I now wish it did) so that would have helped. But I can hear the drive heads clearly on the other side of the home office. Its loud enough to annoy. Granted these drives are intended to be NAS drives, so that comes with the territory a little bit more. But Im not sure if I would do it again. Maybe if I had a case with better sound protection.

1.0 out of 5 starsStay clear of these drives - 3 drive failures within 2 years.

We can all agree that it's difficult to determine which company will provide reliable drives or which drives will just be lemons. Assuming that no-one really has the answer for either, we all have to fallback to vendor support. In my opinion, this vendor has subpar support site and responsiveness. With three fairly new drives failing in one week, I offer caution to potential buyers, stay clear, not because the drives are poor quality, in my situation perhaps lemons, but because support is of poor quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars Failed in less than a year.

Really Upset. This drive has completely failed on me and was used for less than a year. I'm hoping the company/amazon will help reimburse me for this drive. It's literally a pain trying to transfer my information to another drive. After about 30 seconds it just dies. Now, it won't spin up and does not show in the bios nor disk manager. Can someone make this right?

1.0 out of 5 stars It seems like I might have to replace all my drives

I bought five hard drives two months ago. A month later one hard drive failed. And now second hard drive is failing. Both hard drives would make a buzzing noise (two seconds long, one second break, two seconds long, and on and on) as if the power going to the hard drive is inconsistent. The noise gets louder throughout the day. It seems like I might have to replace all my drives. Maybe, I got a bad batch. For now though, I am hesitant about recommending this product.

I purchased thin in January 2017 and off we went. December it quit. It spins quite well but is no longer seen by the computer. I purchased an Orico external HD case and moved it to other computers with no luck. And yes, the case worked with other hds.
I lost a lot of photos, music, backups and data. I don't recommend.buying this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Died after 30 months of use

This has been a good hard drive, but it started with the death click and then it would not allow my computer to boot with it attached to the motherboard. Glad it has a 36 month warranty. Now lets see if they will honor that.

1.0 out of 5 stars LASTED ONLY 10 MONTHS THEN DIED

SO DISAPPOINTED!!! It had such good ratings, but it died after only being installed for 10 months! I don't understand how it could die so quickly...I heard a clicking sound one day last week and the next day it was done. I'm a professional photographer and was using this to store my photographs--thankfully I have Carbonite and they were backed up, but it is VERY aggravating that this happened so quickly. I had about a 1TB of data on it when it crashed. Wish I could get my money back!

1.0 out of 5 stars Freezing all the time

Had it four about 8 months. Passes SMART tests but freezes for about 20 seconds every 2 minutes and gets very hot -- uncomfortable to touch. Tested in different enclosures. Will return for warranty. Have older WD and Seagate (new Skyhawks) and they work fine.

One of the worst drives ever! I ordered this drive as a replacement but after a little over a month of using, this drive just died! Total POS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't do it
Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2017

Purchased two of these for a brand new Synology NAS, set up as RAID 1 (mirroring). Less than 30 days later, one of them has no problems, the other has failed SMART tests since week 2 due to 260,000++ Spin Retries (that only occur when the first spin fails), increasing by thousands daily. For comparison the other has 0. This is under pretty light usage -- the drives just hold about 200gb of family photos and a dozen iTunes movie purchases, which we don't access often.

If I want to submit a warranty claim, I'll have to pay to return their shoddy drive to them and for them to send me a new one. That apprehension you feel buying the HGST instead of the Seagate or just a regular WD...you should listen to that feeling and buy anything else.
