HIC’s Double-Ear Nylon Mesh Strainers are the perfect cooking tools for sifting, draining, straining, and sieving foods and ingredients before baking and cooking. Each nylon strainer features a double-ear support to sit securely on pots and pans, mixing bowls and other food preparation containers, keeping both hands free for other tasks, like measuring and pouring. Use them like a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds, skins and other fibrous bulk and smaller bits for even consistencies and creamier textures in soups and sauces, pastes and purees. No more lumps! These food strainers are versatile kitchen accessories. Rinse legumes, rice, and grains before cooking, catch seeds and pulp when juicing fresh lemons, or drain and strain infusions of herbs or mulling spices. They double nicely as a sifter, too. Powdered ingredients like flour, crushed spices and confectioners’ sugar or ground nut, oat and grain flours tend to settle and compact during packaging and shipping. HIC’s Nylon Mesh Strainers remove clumps from these ingredients and aerate them for even lighter, fluffier baked goods. Made from a durable nylon with a fine nylon mesh and a double-ear design for added stability. Nylon is the perfect non reactive material for use with more acidic foods, like tomato and citrus. HIC’s Double-Ear Nylon Food Strainer will not retain tastes or odors and impart flavors on foods. Top-rack dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. Hangs for convenient storage.

update: I started using this strainer for sifting coconut flour for baking, and it works really well except that the 4" size is just a little small. I am ordering the larger size for this because I like how it sifts and because it is sooooo easy to wash.
that has overflow, not non-Pyrex). Or I can set it on a wide mouse coffee cup and TAP, TAP, TAP away madly to strain
my lovely raw milk kefir. FYI, I have the HIC Brands that Cook Nylon Mesh Strainer, 7-Inch and that mesh
is not as fine, so I use it for other stuff. My kefir grains are teenie tiny ones.
The strainer came well-protected in a box.
However, the strainer set itself is excellent and has proved beyond useful for a myriad of kitchen tasks, not least of which has been straining large batches of tea for kombucha!
At this point, no one in my household strains kombucha anymore. However, if you are someone who does, this is the way to go. Anything metallic might have a negative impact on the good bacteria in the kombucha. That is the primary reason I go with nylon.
I don't believe a nylon strainer can do all of the jobs a stainless steel strainer can, simply because metal is so much stronger than nylon. However, given the price, I am really pleased with this set. They are perfect for light jobs, such as sifting while making baked goods. They are also dishwasher safe on the top rack (I tried this out and it worked perfectly). I would recommend these strainers as a nice back-up or secondary set of strainers to support your stainless steel strainer(s). A very nice product for the price.
We also use it to strain fruit and herbs from kombucha 2nd ferments, its perfect for straining out herbs and any little baby scobies that form in the 2nd ferment.
The small size seems better suited for straining small quantities (like a 16 oz bottle of kombucha) rather than a quart of WK or MK.
It works very well straining thinner liquids like water kefir & kombucha, a bit slow going with milk kefir.
