After googling and figuring that the tool I saw on tv was a crinkle cut tool. Could the answer be that simple and being that this is so inexpensive I had my doubts. The handle is made of wood not plastic, the grip was comfortable and when I cut the sweet potatoes it was a dream. At first I washed the potatoes but found it made them slippery and I did not want that to impede the process and I did not want to cut myself. I am so very happy to report I found this slicer and fell in love. I no longer wash the potato before cutting and just rinse afterwards, making slicing and handling easier. Easy to clean up with a quick handwash. I cannot wait to use on other veggies. It has been a godsend. I have not even knicked my knuckles and no more wasting and you can control the depth of the slices. Such an easy solution.
Hint: I rock the blade slightly when it gets to the bottom of what your are cutting to make sure all the cutting done. This is necessary if you do not make a perfectly straight cut, because part of the bland will not contact the cutting board otherwise.
PS: It's always the dull knife that cuts you.
Another reviewer said it was too large, but it is just large enough to provide leverage on tough cutting jobs. Instead of having to hack & push & lean on it to cut through hard items, I simply use two hands to hold onto both ends of the top handle while sitting comfortably at the kitchen table & ROCK it from side to side while applying minimal downward pressure. It glides through the swede, spaghetti squash, cheese, or other hard items without hurting my hands & makes beautiful crinkle cuts. (If you are cutting things that aren't so hard, just hold the handle in the middle & push straight down.) So easy to use even on the hardest things & should last for years, unlike cheaper models I've seen.
Also much easier to use than other serrators that have a straight handle on one side only. This curved handle balanced over the blade is far superior! Absolutely LOVE it!
