I ordered up one of these bad boys as soon as I saw it for the price here on Amazon! it was delivered overnight because I couldn't wait to get this beast going! I was upgrading from a nVidia GeForce GTX 295. What a difference in power! I bought the GTX 295 when it was the top-of-the-line GPU and I let it run it's life, which it did well enough. But moving from that to this card was a WORLD of difference! I have had no issues with the card or over heating. I have a i7 920, 24GB of RAM, and an 850W PSU from Cooler Master and everything runs just fine! In fact, i'm thinking of upgrading to a 2nd HIS HD 7970 and a 1200W PSU to accommodate a triple monitor EyeFinity configuration now...

Bought two of these in 2012 with the plan to not upgrade anything in my computer for five years. Well, it's been almost three years, and so far, so good. I deviated from the plan slightly to add a 2560x1440 120 Hz monitor, and these can still handle anything I throw at them, at max settings, with a steady 120 FPS.

The only real complaints have been the drivers. Crossfire has been a frequent pain point, and that Raptr garbage they bundle with the installer now was fun to discover.

Pro Tip: You can permanently disable Raptr by right clicking its install folder, selecting Properties, then set all permission to deny in the Security tab. Enjoy computer purgatory, data mining garbage!

I owned a XFX R7970 , a reference AMD 7970.
I needed another 7970 in order to build a CrossFire configuration.
Since the XFX R7970 is too expensive, I buyed this instead.
The firts 7970 was copies from AMD reference card. I guessed they had no customizations.
I was right, CrossFire worked perfectly.
It could not work with cards from different manufacturers, even with the same processor.
If you want a cheap and good 7970, the reference models are your cards.
If you want cutting edge, go to the O.C. editions. They are cheaper and with a better performance.
