Recently got a full Ring alarm system for the house and was looking for a way to power the keypads from the old wiring instead of running the provided power cord to an outlet. Found a YouTube video and this is what the poster used on to do it in his home. Delivery was quick and after watching the video, they installed very quickly. I've had them installed w/the keypads for about 6 months now and no issues at all. I did use a j-box in the wall for one of the converters but not the other. No issues with either and the voltage is extremely minimal. Just make sure you don't have any bare wire showing on your connections if you don't use a j-box and you should be fine.

Because all I had was a long run of ethernet cable to an outdoor location, there was a non-trivial amount voltage drop and the camera refused to work.

Using this converter, I ran ~12v then converted it back to a steady 5v. Even with the 12v having some voltage dropping it worked GREAT.

(FYI: Running over ethernet required soldering, other adaptors and a separate 12v power supply.)

Bonus: it plugged directly into my webcam!

I’ve been using a bunch of these to convert 12v to 5v to drive micro-usb security cameras outside. Worked great for about 8 months but then one of them suddenly started passing 12v to the camera, which promptly fried it. I’m hoping it was a fluke as I don’t see a comparable product with a micro usb connector already in place
