I'm not a diehard gamer, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. I sometimes get nostalgic for my early-90s arcade days and I wanted an arcade style stick for playing my favorite fighters (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter). This stick fit the bill perfectly. I love the Japanese style Hayabusa stick and buttons, and especially like the button layout--so much more ergonomic than the old cabinets I used to play on.
The size and weight are excellent. It is heavy enough to feel like a quality piece of equipment, but light enough to move around with ease. The top plate protrudes over the sides a little, protecting the right-side buttons and making a perfect grab handle. I haven't tried it out on a desk/solid surface yet, but it feels great sitting in my lap. I like it much better than the Xbox Mortal Kombat Fight Stick by PDP that I got when MK9 came out a long time ago.
I made two modifications, which were super easy:
• Replaced the 35mm balltop with a red Sanwa battop (fits my big hands much better);
• Changed the stock square restrictor plate to a KOWAL Hayabusa Octopus Octagonal Restrictor Plate (2016 model). I can't believe how much better I can play now! Definitely recommended.
I like the built-in cable storage box, but I think that I would have preferred a standard detachable USB cable rather than the fixed (non-removable) USB cable that it comes with.
Most of the negative reviews here seem to be related to incompatibility with Windows. I haven't tried it on my PC, so I can't comment there. But for my intended purpose with XB1, this is insanely perfect. Thanks HORI!
*** UPDATE: 4/1/2019 ***
I just verified that this is working flawlessly with Windows 10! I put it in "360" mode (switch on the side), plugged it in and Windows sort-of recognized it. It created a device, but wasn't identified as a game pad. I found it listed somewhere in Windows' Device Manager, right-clicked and selected properties, then driver tab, update driver, browse my computer, let me pick from a list, select xbox 360 controller (or HORI....), OK / done, reboot. Then I fired up MAME, mapped the buttons and played my favorite arcade games until 2am on my HORI RAP V! Note that I didn't actually download any drivers for this to work. Super happy with this fight stick!

The buttons are a bit too sensitive for my likes, as I grew up on arcade ones... which are higher and require more pressure. I find myself hitting buttons by accident on a pretty regular basis. I might change this in the future, but the ease in which I was able to change the gate makes me confident this will also be easy to do.
It's big enough to sit on your lap and not get juked around too much when the fight gets heated. Plus the padding makes it not as cold when I'm wearing shorts.
In all, this is a great controller for any fighting game on the Xbox that is a pretty close replica of what I remember from my time in mid-90's arcades!
As far as using the stick as a fighting stick goes, it's great. Has the right feel and it's very sturdy. Also the USB cable can be stowed in a compartment and doesn't get in the way.
Here's the garbage parts though:
For Windows 10, this ONLY works in 360 mode, meaning you're stuck with using xinput. It flat-out does not recognize the controller when in XBO (or dinput) mode. So if you're playing a game that only uses one or the other, this causes some issues. This is not a problem with Hori but rather one with Microsoft who only wants genuine MS Xbox peripherals to be used on Windows through dinput.
On this model, there's no L3 or R3 buttons meaning you're just SoL if you need to use them (mostly used in training modes or other extra modes to control things like recording, resetting, camera stuff etc).
Overall, really great stick. No idea why there's no L3/R3 though.
