the only thing that is stupid, is the negative lead on the 5v side is RED..... it should be BLACK !! So just be aware that you'll want to read the label on it carefully to see which lead is + and -.

The shipping speed for this was, in a word, AWESOME. From China to my doorstep in 7-days, flat.

The converter, itself, appears to be of decent quality and should work just fine for my application - to use it as a USB charger on my scooter.
All in all, I couldn't be more pleased. The only reason I dropped a star on it is because my phone, Nokia Lumia 1520, see's this as a "slow" charger.

This buck converter makes the most of a 9v battery as you convert to 5vdc for a USB port. Old-school regulator ICs turn the excess voltage into heat and waste it. This unit uses the battery efficiently (a bit like a switching power supply) for longer.

Fits into an Altoids tin with a 9v. cell and USB connector (will bulge the lid just a teense).

I used one of these to get the 5V to run some hard drives off a 12V supply. The drives survived and the resulting system works. It's the same little buck regulator they use in those "USB" phone chargers that fit in an auto cigarette lighter socket, but in a more convenient case for my application. Doesn't get warm so it must be pretty efficient. I haven't measured that yet.

I used this from a car 12v behind my radio ...

I used this from a car 12v behind my radio to a wireless charging pad under the radio. I had wireless charging with my s4 and my 91 five speed toyota supra.

Output voltage shot up to 11.86V with no warning

After six months of use, never being disturbed, the 5V output suddenly became an 11.86V output and fried two of my Raspberry Pi's.

The main issue with this product is that it failed ...
